I wouldn't mind a Necro Job, but I don't see it happening. If it did, it would most likely be a one pet ordeal. Which I would still play. Yes SMN will be a Job however will summon lesser Avatars, LIKE Carbuncle.
If I remembar correctly FFXI have npc necromancers, you can see them when they attack the Selbina/Mahura boat ride



You also fight a reincarnated soul in a Mannequin, so yeah Necromancy was very prominent in Vanadiel. The only problem I have is if they cop out of adding Necromancer because of the "power scaling" they didn't want to do, i.e Necromancer would be weak during daylight hours but shines at night hours, which is why they went with Puppetmaster.
I wouldn't mind Necromancer from FFVa though, which was basically another form of Blue Mage.

Let's keep this game Final Fantasy, please.
It might be cool for dark knight to have some necromantic-like abilities though.

How the eff is a necromancer not final fantasy? So the garlean empire building these crazy ass ships that fly around and shoot guns and *** is final fantasy, EVEN a muskateer/corsair class is final fantasy... but a mage job about using dark magic to raise the dead isn't final fantasy?

I personally feel there are alot of games with better necro classes then AoCs, but thats just me. I admit I do love the necro classes in many many games, and would love to se it in FFXIV. I would also like to see an enchanter/hypnotist type class that can charm any mob with mind control or magical enchantment kind of thing or at least.
I do not like the idea of more then one pet, though, balance issue will work for and against the class in so many ways there, and LAG would become such an issue with all the extra animation in the area.
