I don't understand why you are even arguing this point.
That's not what I meant locked by lore. I don't care that you get it from the story. The thing is, Red XIII was meant to be almost extinct...therefore can't have it as a mount...but thousands of players can all have Midgardsormr all at the same time. So their original stance apparently shifted.

It would erode the sense of 'this is what a spellcaster looks like' or 'this is what a rogue/ninja looks like', etc.
And you don't think that a paladin running in and tanking in a swimsuit and sandals erodes the sense of what a tank looks like? They lost any sense of that when they started letting us glamour items like that over armor. We have naked party members and reindeer, etc.

This mount itself breaks that rule, and i'm sure theres many many others..
Pretty sure Mids is a spiritual manifestation since A) he literally grows to an adult right in front of you just so you can ride him and B) his corpse is still wrapped around the airship in the lake. Plus, only our characters seem to even know he exists. For all we know, we all just have a tiny piece of his soul following us around in various forms.

Nitpicking aside, I personally think only the racial and artifact gear should stay locked, and the glamour requirements otherwise should be lifted. I can see the issue with a mage actually equipping a tank body, but to make their robe /look/ like a tank body, I see no issue with.

I think only AF (including AF2 and palette swapped lookalikes, like the i90 myth gear) should be glamour restricted. That's where SE's justification about looking like a different job actually makes sense, for gear that's specifically designed to the look of a particular job. But everything else should be glamourable regardless of your current class/job.

(I thought at first this would take more data per item, to store whether or not the glamour appearance is restricted, but then realized it doesn't if it just follows a standard rule: If the number of classes/jobs that can equip the item = 1, then that's also the only class or job that can display its appearance. If there is more than 1 that can equip it, then any class or job can glamour it. For non-AF battle gear, you always get at least 2, a job and its base class. Non-AF field gear is equippable by all classes. But AF and its variants are only equppable by a single job or class.)

I would also add that its only low level DoM gear that can actually be glamoured by DoW. Anything 50 or above is DoM only.
    Dragon age origins. Arcane warrior.
Now THAT'S a mage that can rock heavy armor.

And being a tank in nice soft comfortable looking clothing would be grand.

    Enhhh not exactly.

The corpse of Midgarsormr passes along a whelp of his brood to follow you in your search for certain truths- one from which he has chosen as a vessel for his consciousness. As the story progresses he begins to trust the honor you profess. Ultimately his trust in you becomes absolute, and his form evolves into a rideable mount. Its the info that is not presented which could allow multiple instances.

Red XIII, however, according to the only title wherein it existed, has one story point that trumps others: It is practically the last of its kind, an endangered species. Were it to be doled out as a crossover mount, it would violate this lore point.

That said...Nothing here says that a red XIII style mount won't exist, but if it does, it will likely have its own FFXIV universe lore to explain its existence. Not a direct event port like the lightning/snow gear.

The way you get to your goal is in many ways more important than whether you reach your goal at all. If we ask the right requests, you can still, maybe, see a future with this mount. Just don't count on the FFVII crossover event being the specific source for it. Because reasons.

Well, his species could be nearly extinct on Gaia but still plentiful on Hydaelyn. I'd think the bigger problem is that it's an intelligent sentient species, so using one as a mount would be slavery.

There was actually a significant enough desire for the Fortemps armor you wear in the Grand Melee instance that the devs are likely going to make it accessible to all the classes, since it went over the top of your actual gear.

All the Archons wore mismatched gear like that because that was also how they looked in version 1.0, which originally had no class restrictions on gear - instead you had 'recommended class and level', but you could equip any piece of gear on any class at any level if you wanted to. You coped a massive stat penalty though if you equipped a piece of gear that was not recommended by class, such as tank gear on a mage, or was more than 5 levels above or below the 'recommended' level, but you could still do it. The thing is though, players complained about it - they wanted gear to be restricted to class and level, and thus SE changed the game accordingly - adding AF and relic as a start that was restricted to a Job and level 50, and ARR just built on that.

Thus the Archons carried their 'non-recommended' class gear into ARR - considering that with Heavensward SE has been giving them entirelly new outfits that more closely resemble/are more appropriate their classes, it's obvious SE are trying to move beyond this 1.0 holdover, so don't read into it to much.

Basically, players wanted class/level restricted gear, and SE gave them what they wanted. So if you don't like this, blame other players, not SE.

But for glamour, the reasons players would originally want the restrictions for no longer apply. It's one thing to equip it with the wrong stats, another to just use the appearance in glamour.
