Lifting restrictions that are placed because of "lore"

I get limitations due to hardware preventing us from getting something...but another reason I've seen thrown out there for us not having certain things would be lore. For example, there was a mount people were asking for, back in 2.0 i think? The devs said that the character/creature it was based on was rare and it wouldn't make sense to have them all over the place in game. But yet we see Midgardsormr flying around all over the place, Slepnir, etc. I'd say that one is sufficiently defeated.

We can't glamour class locked gears. Artifact armors make sense...but you have things like tunics, generic armors, locked to Disciple of War or Magic or even tank only. The excuse given is that they dont' want to have the classes losing their identity because mages have tank legs on. First...most of the disciple of magic stuff is "All Classes" so you can have mage hats and robes on dragoons and tanks or whatever else you want. Second, we have snowman outfits, swimsuits, and various other clothing items that already destroy class identity and any realism where armor is concerned. So....can we please unlock these things and stop hiding behind lore when its obvious it's not being followed anyways?

I don't have anything to add that's already been presented. But as long as it's solely for cosmetic / glamor / RP reasons, i see no reason why this shouldn't be a thing.

My biggest pet peeve with the glamour restrictions would be the hempen tunic. its a level 1 armor...it's locked to Disciple of War, and yet it has no stats....none...at all. Why? lol

Oh I agree! I can't tell you how many times i cry a little inside when I find the -perfect- glamour combination in the fitting room feature only to realize 2 or more pieces are restricted to a specific class / disciple of war / magic. :/

It's not like this would break anything in-game, I've seen people running around glamored in "the emperor's new EVERYTHING" it was a naked monk.

    Also hello fellow balmungan! o/

As far as mounts go I think the only two times Im aware of them refering to mounts they changed their minds on was a Red 13 mount (FF7) and cloud's bike. The Red 13 mount they felt wouldn't be a good callout to the earlier FF game because Red 13 was supposed to be an almost extinct species and having heaps of versions of him running around wouldn't work. As for the bike, they felt it didn't fit the current themes of FF14 and felt too out of place plus it felt really slow for a bike going at normal mount speed.

As for glamour I'm of too minds. On the one hand I don't really see how opening things up would really hurt. On the other hand I kind of cant help but feel it would have a negative impact on the aesthetic sense to the game. It would erode the sense of 'this is what a spellcaster looks like' or 'this is what a rogue/ninja looks like', etc. Can you imagine a NIN in some of those really heavy plate sets? I would also add that its only low level DoM gear that can actually be glamoured by DoW. Anything 50 or above is DoM only.

I think glamour is truly completely arbrirary. lorewise, you can see Papalymo, A THAUMATURGE sporting plate gauntles, Yda's legs are clad in those tank-only sabaton models, pretty sure she's a pugilist.

Never knew Red XIII was a planned mount. It wouldn't feel right riding on his back anyway, kinda feels wrong thinking about it, Midgardsomr is fine he's a big dragon who willingfully lets you, but not Red feels a bit disrespectful to him.

Midgarsormr mount is locked behind lore, as in you need to earn it via following the story...

I don't understand why you are even arguing this point.

That argument no longer fits though. We have mounts like the OP mentioned, Midgarsormr.. In the story there is only ONE Midgarsormr. He's an actual character with an identity. But you can have ten characters riding midgarsormr's around, right next to each other.. Maybe even next to a character on foot that has the little Midgarsormr minion flying behind them in tow. This mount itself breaks that rule, and i'm sure theres many many others..

I kindof see what you mean with this.. As much as i feel like we should be free to glam ourselves however we want, I do agree that some things should be off limits.. But there's -tons- of generic stuff in the game that is restricted for no reason.. I dont think some of the more plain robes should be restricted simply to casters. Just like i dont think some of the plain tunics should be restricted to just DoW classes. I see absolutely no problem with a paladin or a monk running around in robes (again, the plain ones.. not the ones with magical items dangling all over them :P) and i also see no problem with mages going around wearing tunics and looking like a traveler. I mean if you were a mage and you had to go do business in Little Ala Mhigo or Camp Drybone... Would you really want to go on this trip while wearing a large thick heavy (sometimes fur lined) robe?
