Lack of proper midcore content in this game?

Midcore content just generally doesn't work.
People outgrow it and have no need for it. People that still want old content will be hurried along with nerfs to get to the endgame content, which is the natural progression from the middle game.

Palace of the Dead seems nifty though, considering your level and ilvl won't matter. Perhaps this is the answer to what we seek? Time will tell.

Oh and you can get around the 1000 character limit by simply editing your post.

Doesn't sound like it, they said in the live letter that since they won't be enforcing any party makeup that the dungeons will be easier than normal dungeons. Perhaps it will be time-gated so it isn't crushed in a single day.

But you can also just go in alone. That's the only way you'd be ranked, too.
