Suggestion for Novice Network system - Too many whining sprouts

Honestly is it really that hard to talk to people first? You know, send them a /tell introducing yourself and then asking if they would be interested in joining the Novice Network instead of spamming invites, god forbid you have to talk to people in an mmo.

Trial accounts can't reply to tells, so yes, as obnoxious as it sounds the system was designed around mass invites, and the patch notes even recommend people to use player search for it.

Now this thread will further devolve into people attacking the network without being part of it.

OP's suggestion is good, mentor sends invite, novice gets a window explaining what is the novice network and if they want to join, they can y/n.

Also add a "leave novice network" button instead of having to type a command.


EDIT, READ BEFORE REPLYING. For any other person who wants to quote me: Trial accounts can't reply to tells, you have 50-60 new sprouts that are potentially trial accounts, how do you counter that?

Also, I think asking before invite is useless because if some sprout choose to not join the Novice network but doesn't turn off the sprout status, some mentor will invite him/her again anyway. It's mean that this system was "designed" to let's mentor blind invite any sprouts to Novice network without the requirement of asking before invite.

That's why I think this system really need some adjustment.

Its called courtesy or politeness or just good manners to talk to a sprout first. Blind invites are rude whether or not they're for an LS, an FC or the NN. Just because the system allows rude behavior is not an excuse to not show someone the simple courtesy of asking first. If you were actually nice and asked them first then they wouldn't be bitching about the blind invite.

You're whole point that just because someone else will, you shouldn't have to is absurd. Just because someone else might do something doesn't give you a free pass to do it too.

Bottom line, you acted rudely, got called out on it and now you're complaining.

And what about those non trial accounts. And honestly walking around and engaging leafers via say isn't that bad. Probably the most friendly thing u can do for them at first. But I don't see it much. I guess I wish mentors engaged more as a friend and not a NN inviter.

I agree the NN clashes with trial accounts which is a real shame, I want to them to have a good experience. But we aren't sints.

Those non trial accounts are free to leave the network with one simple command, it takes longer to rant about being invited than to ask how to leave (and with OP's suggestion people would be able to politely decline without having to join at all)

If you are in the novice network, press the novice search button and you will see sprouts all over eorzea, the system is simply unsustainable if you have to scout every single map looking for sprouts to ask them in /say chat, for saying 50-60 sprouts per day. Besides we engage sprouts as mentors once they are in the network, the problem is the inviting process.

Here's a challenge, you do it and prove your point, do it with all 50-60 sprouts, be aware they wont be just in the main cities, they will likely be spread around 15 zones in all 3 regions, (3 low level zones + two main city zones per region) so you have to scout every corner of all 15 zones to ask them in /say chat, note its an average of 50-60 new sprouts per day.

Do it for 3 days and let us know your results.

I don't personally go around doing the blind invites. Not that I'm lazy, I view it the same as others do concerning blind invites into FCs, which I absolutely hate. The NN on Behemoth is largely drama free. True, we do get the occasional sprout ask how to leave or turn off the chat (we can get quite vocal in some of our conversations, it's like a separate FC for me in some fashions) but most of them appreciate any help we provide.

Look I get it. U don't have to do it for all invites but my point is with UR attitude I wonder if ull do it at all for maybe two leafers?
