I just hope SAM uses a one handed sword. Truthfully I want a freelancer.
Why do we have a gun wielding DPS before a simple sword DPS?

I ask this in all honesty why do we need a sword DPS class? Many ask for it, to say it wouldn't be popular would just flat out wrong, but in looking at the iconology of the sword one has to admit that the fantasy of the sword lends it's self to those commonly seen in front of the enemy (i.e tanks)
I am not developer, or any such creator of popular media, however without any of those credentials I feel that the reason two of the thirteen jobs wielding swords was not a mistake. Simply as a way of conveying a character as a hero, the image a swordsmen fighting against evil is just iconic.
Conversely the look of a sword through... lets say back...

(i was actually surprised i had a bit of issue finding a sword to the back image that was not dagger size)
looks much less heroic and somewhat villainous. I am admittedly more than likely wrong and i thank everyone before hand for telling me so... However imo in the drive to paint the picture Sword wielding hero, it is simply easier to put the blade in the hands of the person in front. Even if it means giving them the responsibility of standing there.

I would prefer Samurai tank and a rapier wielding Red Mage as the sword DPS. Oh, and Dancer as the healer, maybe with chakrams.

Well if they go the route of Samurai as DPS, and Red Mage as healer... we would always have Blue Mage? Though that job would be hard to implement in this game.
Ninja kind of counts. They dual wield katanas which is a type of short sword.
Actually... we could get Rune Fencer, caster sword DPS.

Why do you have to call them Katanas. They're not. Katanas have one bladed edge, not two. We don't even get a rogue dagger that resembles a Katana save for a few exceptions point is its not normal for rogue. How do you argue throwing Daggers. Would you throw a katana?Well if they go the route of Samurai as DPS, and Red Mage as healer... we would always have Blue Mage? Though that job would be hard to implement in this game.

Jesus. Why do you all have to count ninja as a sword wielder just to say we already have a sword wielding class. This is a sword that is a dagger can we move on?
Find better arguments.

Actually we sort of do. WAR and SCH are the only jobs with that are guareenteed a slot in an optimal party ass the off-tank/healer. (Though as one pointed out the PS might not be the deciding factor but the utility, which is also true for SCH). It doesn't have to be SAM, but we do need some competition for the Off-Tank slot.
Also DRK was usually described as being offensive to the point where they harm themselves to attack, and in XIV, its a Tank. Ship's already sailed there
