Your argument for why SE won't do beast races can just as well be applied to Viera (albeit on a smaller scale). Removing characteristic features of the race in order to accommodate existing and future gear sets would indeed 'ruin' them in the eyes of people, because then they wouldn't truly be Viera but a poor man's version.

Somewhere, possibly on GameFAQs or Reddit, I made a suggestion where a third clan for Miqo'te could have them with longer ears (re-designed to look similar to rabbit ears, perhaps?) and a shorter tail. It's not a Viera, but it's something different to the other two clans of Miqo'te.

*slaps you with a trout because reasons* But yep, really for a viera wannabe or sub-clan of miqote to make viera fans slightly happy, all they gotta do is crop the tail off, and reangle the miqote ears n extend them. Half the head gear looks like crap on miqote as is. so having goofy viera ears poking thru head gear wont be anything new. But maybe im a rare sorta viera fan that's willing to have none vera feet, and just use claws of the beast to have my viera hands n take wat little concession they gave n be happy XD

This argument that they would be a copy of the Miqos is in my opinion bull-poop. Because the Miqo'tes have no uniqueness to them, they are Hyurs with cat ears and a tail, there is no other difference. They do not look different and they barely stand out in comparison. If these races are already taking from XI and the races back then, then the Viera should easily be able to fit in. A lot of lore is already based on XII so the grounds that they don't fit in falls flat in my mind. Especially since the Mithras in XI actually looked like cats, they had fur they had different facial structures and the ears and tails and body type. They weren't a Hyur copypaste, in XIV they are one. While Au Ra is unique it's just more oriental in nature a version of the Miqos, Vieras could be put in and mesh well.
