People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

Can't say I'm stoked about the Viera either. Chances are, I'd have to zoom in to check their feet/get a closer look at the base of the ears to know whether it's a Viera or just another race with the bunny ears from the Saucer ._.'
In fact, I find even the races we already have a little, uhm...too non-distinct/boring. Pretty much picked miqo'te because at least they got a tail and it's somewhat animated to boot! I'd probably have picked a Burmecian or sth if I could choose, but the options as is...yeah.

I would like to see some robot-like (allagan-like?) races or something like worgen/werewolf/charr. I m totally agree with that and to have some unique or non-human races would be a nice addition. Sure, its clearly not for everyone, but its always nice to have more variety.Secondly, why should Viera be the last race, when we have yet to cover so many types of races? We already have a "cute furry race". We also have "awkward proportions / long limbs". We have both girly and mature human-looking females. What we lack is ferocity, full bestial appearance (see Tauren / Pandaren / Draenei / Worgen in WoW and Sylvari(plant) / Charr in Guild Wars 2), some major animal types (fish & bird, we already have mammal and reptile looking races), some fantasy race types (dwarf, goblin), non-alive race (robots, stone race, undead race) and any race with a "higher being" vibe to them to balance out the "demon" archetype (angels, nephilim, high elves, ancients, ethereal/astral beings, padjal as playable characters).
The thing is: We will never get those. I dont know much about game design or how to create a playable MMORPG-character. But I could imagine, it would take much work to design this race and change every single gear/weapon to fit this specific race. Maybe thats the reason, why Au Ras looking more like Miqotes/Hyur.
For example: Speaking of bestial appearances, I would totally love to play as a Lamia (with some horns/scales like Au Ras). But that would also mean to design every animation for each skill, each class and emote from scratch. Additionally, you have to change/redesign any shoe, skirt, trousers, pants, underwear and alot other items. Same to werewofles, mermaids, angels and so on.

It's okay thought it was a Final Fantasy race I didn't know about. I'd like to see Burmecian too but only as a way of actually seeing if the dev team could find the time to make armor sets fit their physique.
or in XIV's case, the burmecians will be Hyur with mice ears and tails
Here's your burmecian re-designed for FFXIV

There's no need to remodel everything if you don't make it non-humanoid shape. Textures other than regular looking human skin are a good way to make something appear non-human, whilst keeping the basic shape. The thing is: We will never get those. Besides, the Viera would also need all foot gear remodeled or they wouldn't be the Viera that is being asked for.

pretty much what i said in a nut shell glad to see im not the only one who thinks this is a good idea*slaps you with a trout because reasons* But yep, really for a viera wannabe or sub-clan of miqote to make viera fans slightly happy, all they gotta do is crop the tail off, and reangle the miqote ears n extend them. Half the head gear looks like crap on miqote as is. so having goofy viera ears poking thru head gear wont be anything new. But maybe im a rare sorta viera fan that's willing to have none vera feet, and just use claws of the beast to have my viera hands n take wat little concession they gave n be happy XD

No more "Cute" races, we need variety, and that is more womanly and grown up races.
In other words, the proper Viera, with the original feet and everything, like Fran.

I'd rather have orcs than another cute race.
