    Adventurers' Guild Aduyses

"A semi-complete collection of notices and timetables, warnings and wanted posters, found in Eorzea's many Adventurer's Guild."

This furnishing item was introduced in patch 2.4, and at the time, the word "Aduyses" didn't really sit right with me, mainly because there isn't an actual word like that in English. I let it by because it wasn't a thing of concern, but it was always in the back of my mind.

However, going through a few of the other words in the Eorzean dictionary, I found that in Eorzean, U and V are very interchangeable in words. For example, Benevolence is Beneuolens, and Unity is Vnytie.

If we go by that, then Aduyses could technically be made into Advyses. Alright, one step closer.

"Y" is often interchangeable with "ie", and commonly replaces the letter "i" in words. For example, Wisdom is instead Wysdome. So if we do the same, Advyses can become Advises.

Ding ding, we got a word! Taking it a step further, the "s" can also replace "c" due to sound similarities, making Aduyses most likely just a heavily bastardised version of Advices.

One of the meanings of Advice is an official notice or notification of some sorts, which is what the description of the item states.

My question is for the devs in naming the item. Was the item name intended to be left as Aduyses, or was it indeed meant to be actually Advices because of how bastardised it was?

You don't actually need to replace the s with a c. advise, and advises are words!

In this context, we do because advises is a verb whereas advices is a noun. The Eorzean language likes mixing up "s" and "c" sounds anyway (see benevolence example above).

Something tells me that this is the Middle-English version of the word, as speaking it out-loud makes far more sense than reading it. After reading Cantebury Tales in Middle-English, and starting to read Gawain and the Green Knight, you see a lot of words spelled like this: more phonetic than what we have today. But I could be off base; I'm certainly not a student of medieval literature, haha.

    Updated Spelling
NOW upon what party, said Tristram, is it best we be withal as to-morn? Sir, said Palomides, ye shall have mine advice to be against King Arthur as to-morn, for on his party will be Sir Launcelot and many good knights of his blood with him.
From Among the Definitions of Advice
Information or notice given; intelligence; as, late advices from France; commonly in the plural. In commercial language, advice usually means information communicated by letter; used chiefly in reference to drafts or bills of exchange; as, a letter of advice
