    Gardening for Apartments

Will apartments have some form of gardening? As someone who's getting into crafting I don't want to have to buy a full house just so I can grow my own plants. Can't SE add some option for gardening for people who don't have access to a house? Which is the majority of players?

Why would they not allow you to cross bread seeds in these plots? That's ridiculous.

So far the only thing they've announced is flower pots (pots not plots).
"We'll also be releasing flowerpots that you can use to grow flowers. There will be new flowers that can only be grown this way as well. You'll be able to change their colors as well, but this isn't gardening so there won't be things like cross breeding by placing pots next to each other." (source: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...e-Thread/page2)

So as to the above, we don't even know if we'll be able to plant anything but flowers in them to begin with, all we do know is there won't be any crossing using them.

We already got Dandelion Garden Patches with 3.2, it could be an indoor version of those.

You need to read more carefully. Nobody said anything about plots. Pots were discussed. Pot without "L".

Probably because the gardens are a single object in the game, which contains multiple places to plant. The pots however are likely going to each be separate items and as such have no link to any other game items (so won't be aware of items placed next to them).

I'm also no botanist, but I'm pretty sure that to crossbreed plants they have to be touching, something that'd be a lot harder if they're in separate pots instead of planted next to each other in the same soil.

The plants themselves don't need to physically touch to crossbreed, just the pollen. It's like sperm donation, you don't technically need to be in the same room as someone to get them pregnant, just the sperm needs to touch the woman. Same principle with pollen.

Thank you for clarifying (and now I'm wondering why I didn't work that out as it feels like it should have been obvious!)

As per Patch 3.3 Notes (Preliminary): "The flowerpot can be placed within free company estates, private estates, and even private chambers. This furnishing allows players to grow the exact same plants and crops as those in garden plots indoors. In addition to this, there are certain seeds which can only be cultivated in flowerpots. These plants will yield materials to craft gear."

So looks like you can grow everything in the pots, but still no crossing. I wonder if they'll allow anyone to tend them like garden patches.
