I've been wishing we could have a pronunciation guide somewhere since.. before FF14 even existed. Because in English, it's not always intuitive how something would be pronounced given the way it's spelled. And so you get confusion like this:

For older FF games, I would visit wiki pages and hope to see that someone's included the Japanese name and romanization. FF14's a bit too new for me to do the same, I guess. But at least sometimes I get to hear the names I want in cutscenes.

Like Krile was pretty far from my expectation. Before any voiced cutscenes came up, I was calling her krill-lee in my head, because that was the closest I could think of given the spelling and how she was "Cara" and "Kururu" in FF5. Then cutscenes came out. Booooy was I wrong.

Then there's Mhach. I've heard it pronounced like mach/mock and match and muh-hawk. Going by the dev blog "Mhach Ado About Balancing", I guess it's more like "much" with an "ah" instead of an "uh".

And then there are all of the Elezen and Roegadyn names. And speaking of Roegadyns, given that "oe" has been pronounced as something like "oo" (so "bloe" sounds like "blue"), are they "rows" or "rues"?

I have a friend who pronounces regen like Reagan, but I think that's a special case.
