    Chocobo Carriages for personal market

I know, the market is the easiest way to sell items in FFXIV... but what if there was an option to have your own chocobo carriage that you could set up in the overworld that you could sell your products, tax free when you log off? This could provide another option to sell your stuff when you're not online, and just add to the game's atmosphere of logical trade. We see chocobo carriages all the time in game, why not let the player have use for them? So what do you guys think? What would you like to add to this idea if you like it?

I'd hate to see these stalls propped up all over the world, it really would just be jammed packed with them.

If you played FFXI, you may have seen mobs of people afk outside of the main hub city Jeuno, easily over 100 people all afk selling items straight from their inventory in a manor you describe (minus the cart). I could find a good pick outside town, but found one inside probably taken before taxes were put in place to discourage people from selling in towns. I really don;t want this back.

The thing is, that is exactly the reason why we have retainers and the Market Board in the first place - because of the nonsense that FFXI suffered from with player-run bazaars as shown in that above pic. After SE implemented the bazaar taxes for bazaars run inside Jeuno, all players did was then move outside across the zone line into Rolanberry Fields, which made things worse - 'bazaar row' resulted in such a frame rate drop due to the hundreds of people afk there with their bazaars up, that I made a point of avoiding that zone line if I could help it.

Thus when 1.0 was developed, and to try and avoid players creating so-called 'mule' characters for item storage and bazaars, SE created retainers to satisfy the player's 'shop' and item storage functions which were accessible by others even when you logged out (the retainer remained in the game 24/7) - accessed through a special instanced zone in each of the three cities called the Market Ward.

Alas, due to 1.0's muddled original development, the market ward (as shown in the third image in the above post), was just as laggy as Rolanberry Fields' bazaars ever were, if not worse. And to add salt to the wound, the market ward had no way of searching what you needed, you literally had to click on each individual retainer to check what they were selling, a tedious exercise all round (and a final ignominy was the awfully cheesy 'elevator muzac' that was the market ward's BGM (Supply and Demand by Nobuo Uematsu) that really made it seem like I was in a tacky supermarket (only with even less helpful staff and more overpriced rubbish for sale I didn't need). Although it was improved later on by the addition of a search function, it was clear the whole system just simply did not work, thus with ARR Yoshi streamlined the whole thing, made retainers invisible, and centralized everything, retainers, searching, and all, into the Market Board.

Really, the Market Board is not an Auction House like FFXI, it's a set of player bazaars all streamlined into a list you can access easily from multiple places. Thus it makes your idea superfluous I'm afraid, as that is already what your retainers are actually doing - they're running your 'personal shop' for you and accessed from a central location (the Market Board).

I decided I should better explain myself on the basis of the situation everyone thought this would come to be. First, I'm not suggesting this should be a default option. The option would became available quite later in the game, to discourage the creation of said "mule" characters. Second, space would be limited per area to control lag with a sign in these specified areas saying how much space is available. As a result of these inconveniences, there would be no tax to encourage specialized vendors in separate areas. Third, it's not truly superfluous, as it also offers an aesthetic appearance to areas with very little player interaction. All over Erozea, you'll see many barren areas with the occasional player fighting a monster or gathering resources... but that's pretty much it... just wide areas of field. This option would help further showcase the world's player-base visually, while offering a third trade option that you could customize...

With limited space, this would just end up upsetting a lot of people the same way limited housing wards do. And if tax on a big ticket item is an issue, a quick teleport and jog to a Market Board are easier than hunting down a Bazaar. And as to the aesthetic appearance factor, having players set up shop in random places in town just makes things look messy, and it makes no sense and would attract no customers to put it out into the fields where people are fighting or gathering.

I simple don't think this is a good idea. By the way, something like this already exists. People can place their Retainers in their yard and even set up little booths for them.

Story time!! Long time ago, when FF14 was still a baby, and I mean open beta and launch, there was no auction house. There was no "Market wards". People would set up shop in a place and do repairs and vend their goods, 1 place, 1 gigantic lag city if you will.. Uldah. If you were looking for anything in paticular, and it wasn't a hot item, where people were shouting the wares through channel, you were stuck rummaging through the vendors hoping to find what you wanted, and hopefully get a good deal, as you'd prolly need to check all the vendors to find the cheapest of said item you want.

Fast forward a bit into 14's life cycle, Yoshi-P Takes control and starts to "Fix" the game as best he can, were still in 1.0. They launch the market ward thing you see in my previous screenshot, a place for vendors to go and put all of their stuff to sell. Each area was limited just as you want, 200-250 people, something like that. Now you might not think thats too bad, but in reality, every ward for vending was full, and you had to pray and hope to shove your character into the ward every night to vend your stuff. People made mules to sell their stuff and made sure to keep their character in their 24/7 and keep the wards clogged...

Onward still we now have 2.0 / ARR, and we have this nifty marketboard and people want to go backwards because "It looks better"? I don't think so Tim!! Lets keep what we have and cherish it, not muck it up...
