I have decided I am going to wait to get an apartment in Ishgard instead of buying a house in one of the new plots. Ishgard is a really nice city and I am looking forward to see what the residential area will look like

Makes me wonder if parts of the city will undergo a bit of a makeover once the Dragonsong War is over which brings in the lore reason for apartments now being available.
Like how Mor Dhona went from what it was to the town it is now kind of changes. Or what I assume will start happening with Idyllshire.
I wish they would utilize the original housing districts of every city state. Each city now still has them but they have the invisible wall so you can't go inside. It would be cool if they became the new apartment areas. I know it wouldn't bring much life back to the cities but it would be a nice start!
I would buy a house if you have the gil for it, chances are you can always get an apartment later if you like them more...
Out of curiosity, if Mist is not inside Limsa, The Goblet is not inside Ul'dah, and The Lavender Beds is not inside Gridania, why do people think Ishgard housing will be inside Ishgard, a zone locked by the expansion, and meaning that if they were to add wards anyone who doesn't own the expansion wouldn't be able to enter.
Coerthas is pretty big, with 3 zones that were in 1.0 but still haven't been added to the current game, I personally find it far more likely they would allocate either a new zone in Coerthas, or enable one of those 3 previously available zones for housing.
I still remember one side quest NPC in Ishgard mentioning their family had a homestead in Eastern Highlands, so that zone is at least accessible to NPCs lore wise.
EDIT: Before someone says it, they never said they wouldn't add wards in Ishgard, just that apartments will come first.
Oh! I didn't mean to say the ward would be in the city itself. I was just musing if the city would see some restoration, since a lot of it is broken up xD
As for the locations of a new housing ward itself, can't really think of anywhere in Coerthas were they could put it.
Though I seem to remember reading something about an area in Central with a locked gate that leads off to somewhere (though can't remember the details for it)
If they do a new housing ward on top of apartments and want to avoid locking out to people who've not reached Ishgard in the storyline then getting to were the wards could be, Central Coerthas would be the logical choice perhaps?
I say put a new ward in Ishgard and lock out people who havent purchased the expansion. Same for the next expansion if they choose to do housing in that city. At least then we dont have to worry about bots buying up houses only to sell them at higher rates to then turn around and sell gil to us in tell spams.
Well, sadly, it's not even bots buying the houses to resell them. It's actual greedy rich players. Probably the same folks who go on every thread complaining about the steep price of the black market housing and saying "It's so easy to make money in this game!"I say put a new ward in Ishgard and lock out people who havent purchased the expansion. Same for the next expansion if they choose to do housing in that city. At least then we dont have to worry about bots buying up houses only to sell them at higher rates to then turn around and sell gil to us in tell spams.
That said, if you want a house, get a house. If you want to wait for an apartment, wait. But don't do like someone said above; don't get a house if you really mean to just get an apartment anyway. Apartments are coming out first, the Ishgard housing, and then they're gonna start working on a moving feature. That means you'll be unable to move from your house to an apartment without a significant loss.
But hey, if you don't mind that part, go ahead and do both. :P
