I agree with Xai.

While I understand why Yoshida-san wants to have a dramatic MMO feel that retains the essence of the traditional Final Fantasy Summon (like when Ifrit or Shiva or anyone did their Final Attack), limiting it so that only a Free Company can summon them (together), only after beating the Primal to earn the right to summon it seems really limiting to Summoner *as a class* to play everyday.

It then makes "Summoner" feel like a compromised / lesser job (like a "Magic Beastmaster" in some ways).

One's memories of Final Fantasy's most famous Summoners like Rydia or Yuna, etc. *is* of them summoning the famous, awesome, amazing Summons like Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, etc.

If FF XIV's "Summoner" is being able to summon like, "Fire Elemental" or "Carbuncle" (something "small") then it feels like a big letdown.

For myself personally, or even showing it to your friends...

Friend: "Oh cool, you're a Summoner! Show me Bahamut! Shiva!" etc.
You: "Ah sorry, I can't summon any of that. But I can show you... Fire Elemental!" (~_~)

It's a big letdown.

Perhaps we can summon the Primal in a "spirited form" (or some kind of lesser form) so that we can have an "Ifrit" with some more toned down attacks (kind of like Summons in Final Fantasy XIII (where you can hit "Triangle" "Square" "X" and do various coolish Summon "Basic Attacks"), but the Huge, Epic, Gigantic Summon Astral Flow attack (like Ifrit's Hellfire) is left to this original concept that Yoshida-san is talking about (with that 2 week waiting period)?
