I never knew that! I thought it wouldn't matter but I can see the reasoning behind this! I've never tried to add more than 120 days tbh lolI've never tried myself, but from what I've seen other people write the system won't let you do that. Like you said you can indeed add a timecard and it will count towards your veteran rewards straight away, but you can't have more than 180 days game time remaining. So from what I understand, if the amount you're trying to add would give you more than 180 days left, it won't let you add it.
They probably do this simply to make sure that (in the unlikely event!) of shutting down the game, they know that they only have up to 6 months worth of peoples money to sort out (and if they change the price later, people can't stock up on discounted subscriptions etc).
