Isn't that by far the biggest appeal of that job? This is like saying Paladins won't be able to equip a shield because of balancing concerns.
Maybe I'm overstating the importance here, but I never heard of anyone who played Dragoon for the polearm. They wanted a freaking dragon.
Either spend the extra time balancing, or if it just doesn't work for whatever reason, don't add it. How different from Lancer is it even going to be then?

No "they" don't. A good portion of us do not want a wyvern pet.
Let's see... I played Kain's character in FFIV, sans Dragon. I played mostly DRG in FFV, sans Dragon. I played Cid Highwind as a main party member in FFVII, sans Dragon.
Hell, I played the damn Cat-dude in FFX...... sans Dragon.
I'm pretty sure the appeal of Dragoon does not have much to do with a Dragon.
Actually, I did want to play Dragoon in FFXI for the polearm, and definately not because I wanted "a freaking dragon." Dragoon was never about having a dragon until FFXI; it was about the embodiment of dragons or being dragonbane.Isn't that by far the biggest appeal of that job? This is like saying Paladins won't be able to equip a shield because of balancing concerns.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)

yayThanks for posting.
Notes from both articles:
(subject to interpretation)
- SE is considering relocating servers globally to combat latency, but this is very costly and not happening anytime soon
- Free Company emblems can be designed from pre-determined list only, as opposed to player-created graphics
- Samurai will be added and use katana
- Thief or Ninja being considered to dual-wield katanas
- Before additional fighter classes new magic classes will be added
- "Dark" something will be announced
- While raising your chocobo you can choose a focus for it such as healing, fighting, or magic-casting. Also "fat" which could store items. Choco colors will be more a status symbol for players.
- Re-design of market ward/districts for 2.0 to make them less "scary looking"
- Legendary weapons will act as weapon skins and exist across multiple "seasons" so that when higher difficulty content is released, the requirement to apply for these items increases. Crafters will be integral through attaching materia to gear thereby helping players meet the legendary application requirement.
- Ishgard released with 2.0 and contains dragon fight. Primal Moogle fight in 1.20. Primal Garuda and 2 more instanced dungeons in 1.21
- Summoner class with Carbuncle being added
- Dragoon will not have a pet dragon due to balance concerns
- Battle regimens will consist of party members chaining together personal combos. Flashy "Finishing Moves" are being considered for special occasions.
- Magitek Armor from FFVI being actively considered for player mount
- Linkshell kick function will not be fixed until after 1.21
- Player marrige being considered
- Loot situation (ifrit) in process of being fixed, no ETA
- New server architecture will allow players from multiple servers to be grouped for instanced content.
- Server transfers will be possible. Paid or free-once-per-week business model undecided

The bad visuals are the smallest of MW problems however and I hope they do a proper AH first before smearing some make-up on this dead horse.
