Mentoring: Working or still too early to tell?

It's been a while since the introduction of the mentoring system and, at the very least on Cactuar, damn near impossible to get into the mentor channel to check in on the situation. So I'm curious as to how it is going on other worlds and has it seemed to improve the overall skill of leafers or is it still too early to see the results.

I honestly don't know: I haven't entered into the channel for a while already, and I don't know how to remove myself so either I did something wrong, or I'm not able to enter.

But last time I checked it was working "okay": I kept seeing a lot of mentors helping those few leave users (I occasionally helped too) and it seemed to be fine. But I have no clue about the current situation on my server.

Seeing as your world is listed as Blamung Volty, that might be why you haven't been in the mentor channel as it auto kicks you to make room. Too many players. Cactuar runs into the same things. Tons of mentors on our server. Last I saw though it was working okay if not well.

To enter or leave the novice you must now type /novicenetwork. Once you have done so you will stay in (or out) until you reenter that password. However, whether or not you will become an active mentor in the channel will depend on if it is currently mentor capped, something that is reverified upon changing zones. Also inactivity will boot you from the chat, but not the network. In other words afk mentors will be replaced by active ones.

Gotcha, I guess i wasn't all that interested to be in the channel anyway to really bother searching that command but even if I was, it would be nearly impossible to enter (infact even when it was automatic I still couldn't enter all day). But as it is it's just "okay" I guess.

Sometimes i forget the Novice network even exists i opted out of it a while ago as i feel it was handled poorly as SE puts too much faith in the community to act civilised. I instead mentor those who approach for help.
It could be working now but i'm still disappointed the way they handled it.

From the North American perspective - my LS mates tell me of the horror stories some people "advise" in the Mentor network which make me blanch and the fact that some of the most inept play I've seen usually comes from someone with a Mentor Crown makes me believe it's really not working out very well >>; Take my comment with a grain of salt as I'm not a mentor myself. [EDIT] Overall and funny enough I tend to see Leaf'ers player better than Mentors when I do see them . . . Don't know if because the New Leaf is just an alt or if the Novice Network actually is improving the overall play of new players.

I hear the Japanese side of things the Mentor and Novice Network works out great but again, take with a grain of salt as I don't speak the language so my comments come from potentially biased hearsay.

At least on my server, it works fine. Most newbies that are on the Mentor Channel love having someone to talk when they just got to the game, and ever since they added the option to opt out of the channel, only those interested in helping/being helped are there.

Agreed, there are some bad mentors, but in general it's a good place to ask for information or tips.

At least on my server it has been a good addition to the game. People are getting help when needed, and thats what matters.

On my end, we got some bad seeds, but we got a lot of people willing to help.
