    Introducing myself

Hello everyone, the name's SenorPatty and I've been playing this game for the last four (of course, I did remember to sleep, eat and go to work) and its been amazing so far. I started off as Miquo'te archer because everyone knows cat race is master race. Unfitting ingame name character aside (RPers probably frowning at Patrick Steelvue for being so un-lore like), what I like to do at this point is ask what's the best thing they love about this game, your top 3 "do's" and "don'ts" and what keeps you playing this game after experience most or all of its endgame content (if you're at that point).

I'm on the Gilgamesh world, if anyone's interested in striking up a conversation with me. I'm usually online on Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends so hit me up when ya'll feel like it

Hey, I still name my guy Joe Schmoe, even though Final Fantasy lore protocol requires me to name him "Jfdwquet Loingrfw" or something like that.

Best thing about this game: Level sync, a crafting system where you're actually crafting.

    Do's:
    • Keep all your class/job levels, especially your gathering/crafting levels, close to each other. Lots of cross-pollination in this game.
    • Have as many retainers as you can afford. Makes the logistical side of things less of a nightmare. They're godsends, especially if you're a pack rat like myself.
    • Buy a security token. You'll be able to register a free teleport destination (In case you don't know what I'm talking about, as well as this), which really helps.

    Dont's:
    • Go broke. Always carry enough gil to be able to teleport or use a nearby chocobus. Voice of experience.
    • Be in a rush. If WoW is anything to go by, the end game = end of the game. You're just going to be hanging around doing dailies/weeklies and then be left with not much else to do. Take the time to smell the roses.
    • Ignore crafting/gathering. In this game, you can make HQ (high-quality) gear, which is better than what you get from quests and what you can buy from vendors. That can save you a lot of money and time (you won't NEED to do quests in order to gear up) in the long run.

    Welcome to Eorzea Pat!

Don't worry at all about your name not being 'lore correct' - what you name your character is completely up to you, and even lore wise you can easily come up with any number of reasons why your name isn't 'lore correct' - my character also does not follow Sunseeker Miqo'te girl naming traditions either, which I have 'explained' by working out that her parents were outcasts from their tribe who left and ended up settling in Ala Mhigo (a predominantly Highlander hyur city), and shed their tribal names and adopted Ala Mhigan names instead, and thus named their daughter (who was born in Ala Mhigo) accordingly. I'm sure you could come up with something equally fitting to explain Pat's non 'traditional' name too. Or, you don't even have to do that, just say you like the name and took it up when adventuring. How you play your character including your name is up to you.

As for my top 3 'do's' and 'don'ts', that's a hard one, as I tend to play very leisurely and are very much a 'casual' player, but I'll try!

These are more general tips but:

Take up every quest you can do, both main scenario and sidequests. Main Scenario quests are the quests with a flaming meteor icon, and sidequests just have an exclamation mark in a golden Q. Not only does the main scenario reveal the mysteries surrounding the world you are in, much of the game's content is unlocked through main scenario advancement, so you will be missing out on a lot if you don't do the storyline!
As well, every five levels, keep up to date with your class quests! These are given back at the Guild for your class, these also unlock certain content, as well as also giving you equipment and, depending on the quest, abilities as well. At level 30, the class quests at the Guild are replaced with Job quests which also reward abilities, so make sure to unlock the Job and keep up to date with it's quests as well!
But most importantly, take your time and have fun! It's not the destination that is important, but the journey.

    I really don't have any 'don'ts' though.

Ill join the chorus saying that you shouldnt worry about your name being lore-appropriate. Most people wont question it, and if it starts to come up in your social circles you can put together a backstory to cover it. Your race ranking is off though. It goes Elezen at the very top, then miquote, then hyur/au ra, then much further down lala, and at the very bottem roe's. On to the questions.

Favorite thing? Story. Where its been, and where its going. I cant answer your endgame question, because i dont feel like ive done everything yet.

    Dos:
Keep a quest from the main scenario in your journal all the time. Even if you plan to take a break from advancing the story, always pick up the next MSQ quest before you stop. If you dont it can sometimes be tough to remember where you were when you need to start back up again.
Try different classes. The freedom to be everything is worth embracing at least partly. Not saying you need to do everything, but for sure try a few different things.
Explore the world. There are a ton of things you can miss if you just rush to the end game. So look around, and find some of them.

    Donts:
Stress out about your gear. While leveling up, you can get away with replacing your armor every 10-15 or so levels. Your jewelry can go longer then that(there arent as many jewelry upgrades). So dont worry if your stuff is a few levels old. If you feel under-powered, your weapon makes the biggest difference so upgrade that first.
Be afraid to try out crafting and gathering. Crafting and gathering in this game are treated very differently then they are in most other MMOs. So try em out. They can make you extra money, they can let you upgrade and repair your own gear, and they can give you an extra thing to do if you arent in a questing/killing mood.
Be afraid to ask for help. There are plenty of things in the game that arent obvious. If you need help with something please ask. Here on the boards, in game with your FC/LS members, wherever.

    Bonus Do: Have fun. Duh.
