Chances of facing a Primal/Boss Carbuncle?

Would be kinda awesome to see a Boss Carbuncle
It would be even more wicked if the boss could punish players
that try to summon a normal smaller Carbuncle

I can already see it happen..
Arcanist tries to summon a Carbuncle
Carbuncle's head pops out of the summoning circle
And a chain of Carbuncle's jump at the Arcanist that drag the
Arcanist down within seconds!! Into the Portal the Arcanist himself summoned

Wouldn't really make sense from a lore standpoint. It all has to do with arcane geometry gibberish, some of which vaguely explained early in the archaist class story. If I'm following correctly, Caubuncle in FFXIV isn't a primal in the way that Fenrir isn't a primal.

This was pretty much my thought. In FFXIV's lore, Carbuncle is basically aether given form by an Arcanist using a mathematical formula. Though we have seen that some Carbuncles can be ill-behaved or mischievous (i.e. Tataru's Carbuncle running away from her or the Emerald in Mor Dhona hiding from its master), I think it's kind of a stretch to try making it into a primal. There's also the masterless Topaz in Idyllshire, though arguably that one's just on Place while its master shops. :3

I don't think players 'Summon' Carby....there's maths.....and triangles...and circles....and octomoms involved.

Edit: I think there being 'multiple' Carbuncles in the world secures it as 'not-a-summon'.

Primals are summoned with crystals and the will of a being or multiple beings. Spoiler of the coil

The old man, alphi's uncle or w/e, was summoned by his sister through her need and want to see him.

If a being were to wish havoc on the world or just chaos it would be possible for Carbuncle to make a malicious appearance. For those talking about lore being an issue, I don't even. As much as all the hate, jealousy, and selfishness in Eorzea, one person is possible to get pissed off at students of the arcane magics and wish to summon the most powerful Carbuncle to thwart them with the help of a few crystals as well. Yeah, it could happen. I'm not knocking that idea either. It'd would be rather fun.

I'm sure they could swing a boss-type carbuncle from a lore point of view. 'There are rumors that a fugitive arcanist has been discovered a powerful incantation for a terror of a Carbuncle!' etc etc. In the story we see Alphinaud making progress with different Carbuncle incantations, so there's some precedence for the possibility.

But a 'primal'? No, not likely.

Personally I think the only way/time you will face an enemy version of Carbuncle is if you are facing an enemy ACN and thus have to contend with their pet, as Paradine above me mentioned. But as others have already said, this is not FFXI where Carby is a literal god. Here he is just an aetheric construct born from arcane mathematics. Without that ACN to sustain him, he disappears.


Also although I do not have the exact reference on me, as I understand it Yoshi and the development team are actually trying to move the game's focus away from dealing with the Primals/summons as enemies, so an 'evil Primal version of Carbuncle' is even more unlikely, if not outright never happening. But as I do not have the actual quote to prove that take that with a grain of salt.

The lore requirements on a primal seem to be (1) ideas, and (2) aether. I don't see anything stopping them from making instances of primals out of carbuncles, trash monsters, bosses, kings, stones, or whatever. If summoners and arcanists are already using ideas and aether to make creatures, a primal seems like a natural extension.

Sadly, there's a lack of gameplay precedent for some of that.

So check this out, this arcanist was strolling through the pathway in middle la noscea, with her newfound friend and level 4 ability carby, meanwhile a rabid wharf rat bites the carbuncle causing it to run away. Now its out in la noscea and you have to put it out of its misery? just for kicks we'll go old school carbuncle and itll use ruby light so your attacks are refleced back on you..

As long as it involves fighting five Carbuncles at once eventually, in addition to him summoning every other Primal as part of the phases.
