It would be unnecessary to wipe characters' crafting levels to redo the system; just because the mechanics change doesn't mean progress has to be lost. It might become easier and far faster to level up if they make the changes I hope they do, but that shouldn't be any reason to not make them. Just the opposite.

I've heard the argument before that players should continue to put up with shitty mechanics and broken systems because other players suffered through it. "It would diminish their accomplishments," or some such. That was the reason the FFXI development team cited for refusing to change NM pop mechanics, amongst other things, I believe. But they did eventually, and you'd be fighting an uphill battle trying to convince me it wasn't worth changing.

The point being, its never too late to fix something that just sucks ass. That one guy on your server who got all his crafts to 50 might have spent innumerable hours toiling away(or watching netflix, etc), but the developers can't let that get in the way of fixing what so desperately needs to be fixed. If a masochist cries foul and quits, so be it. Another thousand players who were once disgusted with the treadmill that is crafting will finally be able to take his place in the market.
