Right at this moment I am crafting. Really, I am just hitting the 'A' button on my 360 pad, the game isn't even up on my screen (this website is). The sound is muted and I'm watching tv. If someone is talking to me, I guess I'm ignoring them. Am I botting? I don't think so, but I probably look like it.

I'm sorry, but this is what crafting is at the current time. I wish they would require me to devote more attention/interest in what I'm doing to level up, but until then, this seems to be the best method for the grind.

I do the same - I craft a ton of the same item over and over and don't really pay attention to things around me until I am done with that series of synths. I am often reading Lodestone or something else online, actually. I usually craft in the same place, often logging in and out right in front of my retainers in the wards. I craft there because there is no spam so I can actually read just my ls chat when I care to glance at the screen.

I have often wondered if people assume I am botting - I am definitely not. Crafting is tedious at times and I highly doubt that nearly as many people are truly botting as are suspected of doing so.

Even if you were to be seen doing it for 10 hours, crying bot seems a bit 2003. Most gaming keyboards and devices these days come with macro features that you can hold down or even toggle to repeat a button press, and it's quite reasonable to imagine someone toggling it and walking away for a few crafts, or a few hours. Instead of tapping "A" or Enter or whatever you're using to press "Okay" to everything. At that point, it's the exact same animal.

If there's no real script logic involved (such as in a bot program, which would tell you what to lock onto or not, to move forward and what buttons to press) it's not botting. Just like how wedging a coin into your keyboard to hold a keypress down (anyone who played RF Online knows what I mean) isn't botting.

As far as battle botting goes, I'm not so much under the impression it's that rampant, because it seems that anyone who's botting is known as a botter. If botting was that bad, it'd be an accepted part of the game, like some MMOs with botters. But it's really vile that bot programs are working, kind of makes me miss PlayOnline (almost.)

Add: Botting(by any definition) would be much less common if the game wasn't in such a simpleton state and required real tactics and actually had real difficulty, *especially* for crafting. I thought spamming "Standard Synthesis" wasn't viable anymore, but oh look, it is. :/

I agree entirely. This is all i do when leveling my crafts, and I find it rather depressing. I WANT to enjoy crafting, but they make it hard when it is so mindless and to get exp, all you need to do is press enter/select/x/a/etc and you succeed like 95-100% of the time.

Maybe if they made the crafting system more interesting, or added more challenges to make it challenging but not excessively drawn out, it might become a better system. :/ I originally liked the system due to it's originality in trying to require you to actually interact with the craft, but if I had to say in comparison to another game that did a similar thing, Everquest II did a better job.
