Many players still do treat the aggro bar as dps meter. Number 2 aggro means best dps

That's why players never used to use quelling strikes or diversion or would blow there minds if a ninja smoke screened them because all those things apparantly gimped there dps.

DPS doesn't really matter in any story content (there are exceptions, of course), and it's content meant for absolutely everyone. No one should need a parser to learn their job well enough to get through an expert dungeon or story primal (yes there are some really bad players out there, but they can be given advice even without using a parser, since it's not hard to see if someone isn't using their abilities).

Savage, extremes and Ultimate are a different thing because of their tight DPS checks: in those fight you need to know if you and your team members are doing good enough to be able to beat the fight in the first place. That's why parser is absolutely needed for those. I still think it should be added as an optimal feature though, so people can still organise parties without running one if they so wish.
You don't build up your knowledge of how to play your class in end game without getting kicked. You build up your knowledge of how to play your class as you play it leveling up to the current cap then you finish polishing it out at cap. The parser early on serves the same purposes as it does later on.

I'm with you... to an extent.

I don't want to assume that everyone learns like I do, I'm sure that isn't the case, but I'm sure a fair bit of people do. If you dropped me into a 70 job I wouldn't know which way was up because part of learning a role is playing it through the leveling process. There is a reason so much controversy surrounds jump potion users.

To me having a parser available from the beginning of leveling a class is part of my desire to have them in the game. To be able to see the different ways new skills impact my DPS as I gain those skills would be really helpful.

As someone who really wants a parser for personal growth/improvment I don't see why we would limit it to endgame content - I can be doing a full rotation (for any level) on virtually any boss in a dungeon and I'd like to be getting the feedback a parser provides on all those encounters because it's always advantageous to know more and be able to edit as you go as opposed to reaching 70 and entering an EX primal only to discover you've been performing something incorrectly for the last 69 levels.

I say this as someone currently seriously considering purchasing a computer to run this game on despite not having more than a tablet in years literally just for the benefits of ACT.

    I'm the same way actually.

I learn basics by leveling the job and seeing what makes me do better damage even while leveling. For me it is simply easier to put the puzzle together one piece at a time instead of having tons of puzzle pieces dumped on my head all at once. As I level I take each new ability or spell and analyze it and find out how it fits into my rotation. It's sort of a more relaxed approach in my opinion and I prefer it.

Most jobs full rotation only happens at max level that's true, but the foundation you gain while leveling helps you transition to the full rotation easier. That's how I feel about it anyway.

Or they just accept and design an in-game parser that functions with both PS4 and PC versions.

Yeah, I'm just thinking that especially as a DD, you don't even get your rotation until level 70, so there's no way for you to practice that and your opener before that. Wether it's a new level 70 job you're just leveled or an old one you haven't played in a long time and have completely forgotten, the first step is to find the rotation and then practice practice practice on a dummy until you have the rotation in your muscle memory. And only then you should bring it to content, first easy one and later raiding, if you're feeling confident and can kill the dummy. That's how my learning process usually goes, although of course it's different for everyone like you said. For me the leveling part is mostly about seeing what my abilities are and how they work, not learning how the job actually plays at level 70.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you both on this! I just don't think a parser is as much needed for this part of the learning process, especially considering how different jobs have such different strengths on different levels (because of the abilities available to them).

They seem pretty intent on not giving us one sadly I just went and bought a pc , works out because it actually freed my ps4 up from only playing ff14. This has to be one of the most requested things on the forums and the devs dont seem like they are going to change their minds on it sadly. But we can dream I guess, it would help so many people but their fear of the cons of the negative effects will probably prevent them from changing their stance on this.

Ditto. It's easier to incorporate a changed thing at 70 into a class where you already had a chance to learn most of it than it is to just go "here's 23 skills, figure it out!" Especially since lots of jobs don't fundamentally change between 60-70. Sure, some do. Lots of them don't, including pretty much all the tanks & healers.

There is a reason so much controversy surrounds jump potion users.
Yup. It's really, REALLY easy to spot someone that used one and just jumped straight into 60+ content, because they rarely do well right away. You need to learn what all those buttons do and when to use them. The more of them you get thrown at you simultaneously, the harder that is. Hiding information about how well you're doing isn't at all helpful to this process, either. There's no simple way to try stuff and see what works in real time unless you break the rules by having a parser.

In a game where content is focused so much around doing enough DPS to kill things before enrages, keeping DPS secret is silly (and ultimately prone to failure anyway given that PC users have ways to do it, which just puts console players at an information disadvantage).

You remember when I started playing BLM again and I was in Alliance roulette trying to figure out if I was doing it correctly or not... and was effectively blind to that. I fail to see how that's supposed to be a good thing.

Don't forget everybody who so much as asks for a parser from now on should be banned on the spot. :P
