Also, if you don't want to participate in the higher content, this discussion doesn't concern you in the first place, since people are only asking it for Savage, Extremes and Ultimate... So why object it when you will never have to deal with it, and it can actually help people who do wish to do that content? (If I have missed posts where people are asking it for leveling or casual content without enrages, feel free to point them out to me though.)

You need more than just mechanical knowledge and up-to-date gear to clear a fight.

Take a ShinEx group I was in last week. A MNK in full 320 crafted (non-melded) was doing more damage with two deaths than a MCH that massively outgeared him (330-340 gear in every slot with some melds) with no deaths. For all the MCH’s big talk, he could barely break 3k DPS; the MNK with 2 deaths was still 600 DPS ahead of him, and was pulling 4,000~4,200 DPS on pulls where they weren’t killed due to healer negligence. We saw the second Tidal Wave in phase one with zero deaths because the DPS was that low; I highly doubt we would have made the Tidal Wave enrage, because I’ve been in groups with higher rDPS that just barely made it before the cast finished. So yeah, DPS is important in Extreme/Savage/Ultimate fights, and not just “an e-peen contest”. Don’t try to pretend that it isn’t.

And again, here is another example of someone who considers themselves “anti-parser” being unnecessarily hostile. But the “pro-parser” crowd is the “toxic” crowd.....

Even if there were as many threads about players not doing enough dps in casual content, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. There is nothing inherently wrong with discussing the topic itself, in fact there is entire thread with thousands of responses about bad DF groups that's been on the front page for years. All you're doing is grouping people that are for parsers and painting them all in a negative light, when in fact it's the people that are against parsers that are displaying the most hostility. It's getting ridiculous.

You have to wonder how this "raiding/raiders/parsers are toxic," rhetoric even propagated. The grand majority of posts I see that say that always end up sounding incredibly hostile or just downright condescending, completely unaware of their own hypocrisy. Even worse is the multiple posts where people say "as long as I do what I deem as necessary, I'll be fine," ignoring the fact that the main basis of this game is teamwork. It is not about you.

    1.Go to reddit.
    2. read one of the many endless complaining posts about how bad players are
    3. notice that most of them are about raid level content.
    4. there you go.

There is an entire thread with over 1300 pages more or less dedicated to complaining about duty finder/party finder/etc. The grand majority of the posts there are just complaints. It's the same thing.

Edit: My point being that people will complain about anything, even those that don't parse. You don't have to go very far into said thread for people to be constantly complaining and whining about player performance regardless of parsers or DPS numbers. The raiding player base and more specifically pro-parsers aren't any more toxic than the average casual player.

I suppose we just have to stay perfectly silent lest we hurt someone's feeling then? Reddit evokes the same policies this forum does: no names. Therefore, any complaints are entirely anonymous. Sometimes people just want to vent about the bad players they've encountered hence the most popular thread is Tales of the Duty Finder. Coincidentally, most complaints come from dungeons or 24 mans. You know, the content we're not advocating a parse for. It's almost like people simply dislike bad players in general regardless of where their own skill level falls.

    Exactly!

I am a self-proclaimed filthy casual. IRL keeps me from participating in O3S-Ultimate where (imo) you need a static to survive. I have been very active in the 'Tales from the Duty Finder' thread since I joined this forum and I think I've got perhaps 2 complaints about O1S and a few EX primal posts amongst my 50+ stories added to that thread.

I just don't think parsers would have helped most of those situations. Maybe they would have helped me fine-tune my DPS but in a single target situation my rock throwing on WHM likely isn't saving the day alone.

Know where a parser can make a world of difference? Any fight with a hard enrage. Any fight I can't reliably solo heal. Any fight like EX or Savage where optimization isn't only the difference in clear time but also the difference in whether or not you'll clear at all.

Parsing isn't always the answer... but sometimes it is. There is no argument against parsing EX+ content that holds up under scrutiny. The answer to 'do we need a parser?' is a clear and resounding 'yes!', it's only the fact that many people have their heads stuck in the sand that has held us back for so long.

I still don't know why it can't just give you some personal stats after a battle and maybe some groupings info so you can see what overall the averages for your ilvl are. No-one else gets to see it. If you really aren't interested, then have it turn on/off in the settings.

It seems so basic, I have no idea why SE haven't done it, and why anyone would be against it.
