Question I have been shy to ask... is Eorzea the planet, or is it a continent?

I am courious... as to what Eorzea really is... is it the whole planet? If so,when what is the landmass where Ul'dah, Gridana etc are called then?

Eorzea is a continent, one of three. The planet itself is called Hydaelyn.

Eorzea is one of the three continents that make up one giant land mass of the planet Hydaelyn. Consisting of Aldenard and its surrounding islands, Eorzea contains several independently governed city-states that have a long history of war and alliances. The few that have lasted longest are the thalassocracy of Limsa Lominsa, the commercial sultanate of Ul'dah, and the forest city-state of Gridania. Though they have warred amongst each other in the past, the powerful and aggressive Garlean Empire has begun their slow advance on the city-states, making the current situation in Eorzea that of an uneasy alliance.

The continent is Aldenard, the large island Limsa's on is Vylbrand, Aldenard and Vylbrand together are known as Eorzea, and Eorzea is one large region in a world called Hydaelyn. (My spelling on the latter may be off.)

I lean toward "lehv", just because you can't confuse that with any other words.

"Leave", because it's a derivation of the Middle English word that evolved into the modern English word 'leave' - you can see traces of this sense remaining in phrases like "by your leave". It basically means 'permission'. (Also I /think/ in Japanese it's referred to using katakana that wind up being pronounced as 'leave' as well, but I'm not 100% sure on this.)
