Archbishop Thordan VII TT Card question.

I figure this is the right forum for this question, but if not, hopefully a mod can fix it.

As a TT Card collector I've managed to get 136/140 cards out there, and have gotten a lot of fun and satisfaction in doing so. I fact I became a better player in the process of chasing cards from dungeons and trials. So my card collecting was a good motivation factor for me to get more skilled.

Three of the cards I need are Tourney cards, so they will come when they come. RNG will smile eventually. So no worries there, though I wouldn't mind seeing them placed on NPC's for me to play for.

The last card is Archbishop Thordan VII. Odd card, most of the Primal trial cards drop from both the Hard/Story mode AND the EX mode (at a higher rate). But Thordan seems to only come from the EX battle, and no one has ever reported a Singularity Reactor Story mode drop (anyone see it there?).

I've not found a way 'into' the EX fight. I fully know that I'll need to spend a good bit with learning parties to be capable of the fight, and would happily put that time in, if I could find anyone who still wanted to do the fight. But Thordan's drops are already old news and the effort for the fight seems to not be worth the mount chasing we usually see. It's not a fight you DF. I'm not going to find 7 FC mates who want to spend the time to learn this battle with nothing on the other side for them. So I'm faced with no clear way to this card. We've never seen one solely gated behind content of this level before.

I'm curious to see others path to this card who got it, and even stories of other cards that were difficult 'gets' for people.

And I also would like to make the suggestion to the Dev's that the card be added to the story mode of the fight. I've found that to be a fun battle, and have never had issues with getting into it via DF, and I'd be happy to work at it like I did with the Sephirot card from the Hard mode fight there.

Interesting, im only gotten it from ex but I think it is the story mode im have only done once and thats it but have had to do story mode from trial roulette twice and never gotten it.

I got it from EX after 40-50 clears. Could always just wait until they nerf it to oblivion in later patches /shrug

Oh I expect it to be shifted to a NPC to play for at some point, as all the 2.0 cards were. Or someday with i340 gear we'll just stamp him.

Ouch on 50 clears for it for you though. My condolences.

I cleared Thordan ex for the first time only yesterday, so it is possible to find groups.

He drops a bird mount now, learn the fight and join a bird farm party until you can get it, hopefully your server has the population interested in farming that.

This sort of represents the catch 22 I face. I've seen a few farm parties looking for members, but they only want someone who knows the fight, and can execute. Totally reasonable requirement. But there are no learning parties. I've looked for them, tried to start my own, and seen and got nothing. So I have no way TOO learn the fight, so I could join the farm parties fun. I sure as heck am not going to jump into DF to learn, as that is utterly unfair to the others in there, as I KNOW I'm not ready for prime time. So I have no path.

I'm not overly bothered, as I'm sure the card will shift to an NPC at some point, or perhaps it will get added to the story mode. I was just curious as to how others have approached this one. It seems to be an unusual case in the dropped cards.

I just wish they'd stop gating these cards behind stuff like this anyway. I think it's cool and a fun idea to have multiple ways to earn the cards, but I think every card should be obtainable from an NPC if you so choose. This is supposed to be a fun little mini game, I shouldn't need to learn EX primals, level crofters, and do a billion beastman quests and FATEs to get cards.

I am okay with gating some cards behind beastman reps, raids, trials or dungeons plus fates but I do think they should be dropped in normal/hard and EX and not just EX in terms of when in trials, dropped in normal and hard modes of dungeons not just hard mode, dropped in normal and savage raids not just savage etc. Being a hardcore card player shouldn't require also being a hardcore raider type DoW/DoM.

TBH many people entering DF for stuff like thordan go into it not expecting to clear quickly but to learn and potentially clear if the group learns quickly
