I don't think they have any right to charge us to play a beta. It's been a year and still no search function, no useable LFG system, and no mail. The game is a wasteland outside of chatting linkshells. Now that tons of people are going to quit, the game is going to become even more desolate. Why am I going to -pay- to play a game that's not even really ready?
I always thought to myself that they would only change when this theoretical 2.0 was released (and on PS3 too)... but to charge us for it one year ahead of time? I understand there are bills to pay, but SE really made a horrible game and deserve to pay the price. I still feel insulted that they even released the game in the first place.
I only log in to play around, check to see what's changed, and log out, and I'm sure at least 50% of the players are exactly like me (if not more).
Don't get me wrong, I had a huge smile on my face as I read through the announcement and saw the PDFs about 2.0... but I'm not paying for 1.9, or 1.20.
Unfortunately, they are probably making the wrong decision on behalf of the players. I already feel insulted -again-. For the entire 2012 I'm going to be pissed at them for not allowing the people who payed 50+ dollars for this garbage continue to see the updates that THEY OWE US first hand. Now I'm going to have to be a forum dweller.
TLDR: I feel insulted all over again and refuse to pay for beta, a bad beta at that.
****EDIT***** Important Quote from last page.
i don't mind waiting. I've been waiting since 2010. And yes, I log into the game but i don't really do much except run around. I look at shop prices, I check the market wards, I see how bad the server - client lag is. I check to see how the combat has changed (even if it is level 15). It still gives a really good idea about how the general basics work in FFXIV (which are their -main- problems). I don't need to level and see how the monster strongholds work, or how much EXP the leve's give. I do want to save my experiences in FFXIV for when it's actually good. I do not want to level up just to be higher than everyone else once 2.0 hits. But you know what? I understand your position on experiencing content. You want to wait until everything has been polished and the game plays the way it was meant to. That's totally understandable. Problem is, you gotta wait then. Like it or not, the more content you play, the better idea you have of how each piece of the game fits into the whole. I could review a book having only read the first page, but no one would care to hear what I have to say about it - and rightfully so. If you want to wait until everything is fixed before you play, then wait. It's not as if the little bit of content you'd be able to give feedback on won't be covered by the thousands of other players who have experienced more of the game than you have. And making a thread saying "I'm not paying, bye" does nothing to change that.
Bottom line still stands. You guys are just 'fanboy' enough to pay SE to test their content for them. They are counting on you to make sure their relaunch goes better than their first launch. This MMORPG now depends on this relaunch more than anything. It doesn't matter how much money they make each month in this coming year... if the relaunch does not deliver (and in a timely manner) FFXIV is going to flat out flop. Why are you paying them? They messed up. You should not have to pay for that. Charge us when the relaunch happens SE. Do not charge us to help pave the way for your relaunch.
***NEW EDIT***
NEW EDIT 10/18the problem I am seeing here is, I don't think anyone who are buying MMORPGs in 2012 holiday season are going to give a ***. You don't realize how bad a bad launch for an MMORPG can be. It can be the absolute death of it from the get-go. Now, the new dev team are working extremely hard to get this game back on track, I realize that. But, another year of basically "bad" game, -and- you have to pay for it? NO ONE NEW IS GOING TO BUY THE GAME, at best in 2012, the few of us who bought this game on launch day may come back after 2.0
I came here to talk about it because these are my people. They are the people who I will be sharing a world with. This is my community. I really hope that this community becomes a big part of my online gaming life for many years. If I wanted to just shout into the ears of people who don't even play this game, I would've went to MMORPG.com or something. But that's not what I wanted.
