New to level 50 checklist for Spring/Summer 2016

Hello. I've been level 50+ for a few days, and I found older guides about what to do/things to consider for new players who hit 50 for the first time, like this. It's been generally helpful but I haven't gotten too far yet.

Is there anything you would change/add to that kind of guide (if you skimmed it) or just toss out in general (if you skipped it) for new people hitting the 50 mark?

What used to be great gear to farm may still be OK for completely new level-50s or may be not worth it at all. There may be some things like PvP that aren't as easy to get into at 50 now because players are focused on The Feast. And so on. So for people just hitting 50 on their first class or who will do so over the next few months, what guidance would you care to offer?

Gear is not something you need to worry about your first time through. The game will throw gear at you via quest rewards every even level (52 54 56 58) until you hit 60. You can even grab gear for separate jobs since quests only give rewards out for some of the jobs instead of all of them at once. Once you hit level 60 you start farming tomes to upgrade your gear.

You can skip Poetics equipment at this point, if you want. The main story quests will give you a bunch of really decent equipment. So you don't have to bother with grinding Poetics now, unless you want the items for glamour or something. EDIT: Though Poetics are good to collect equipment for jobs other than your main.

The different trials and such listed may be good things to run, if you want to see all the fights, but they don't really drop anything good anymore. And some may be hard to get into since they are rather old (hard modes, extremes, etc). You don't have to do those, but they can be fun.

Honestly, continue the 2.x story and when that finishes move on to HW. You'll struggle to get anyone for the group content as it's now old. Do you have the HW expansion yet?
