It isn't a bad idea really.

I'm kind of curious though. Why do people all of a sudden care about housing? Like um, the first year and a half of 2.0 launch, there were "vacant lots" all over the place. Do people not remember how it used to be anymore? I know that isn't the case anymore and every spot is filled 99.9% of the time. I guess that is how it should be. But why were there vacant spots all over the place for more than a year when the game came out? I bought one of the most expensive ones and I suck at making money... I noticed the houses were being bought up suddenly so I spent two weeks saving up enough gil from crafting/gathering sales for a large and just bought it.

I've love for everyone that wants one to be able to get a place of their own. I just don't understand why there were tons of vacant spots for nearly 2 years and like, over the span of two months, everything remaining got bought. The fact that people got interested and bought them is great though. I like seeing neighbors around. I like the housing wards to be active. I chat up people outside near my summoning bell as I craft and stuff. It's fun.

Do you remember personal housing being added, and prices being reduced? That's why.

Prices were astronomical relative to the economy at that point in time. And at that point in time, gil was very limited. The main source of gil was quest rewards during leveling. Other than that, gil generally came from either crafting (i.e. transfer of wealth from player to player), or running FATEs repeatedly, or leve quests. And it was at a time when dungeons gave gil through coin drops in chests which had to be divided between the party members---only to get nerfed because bots were farming those chests.

Not to mention Yoshi-P said that housing would be afforadable but released it priced for only the richest hierarchy (which at that time meant the crafters who caught the initial relic market selling pre-relic weapons at 400k a pop at the peak on a non-legacy server, practically a non-crafting player's full fortune as a fresh 50).

Only then came the housing price adjustments, more gil income sources, and so the housing rush that you talked about. FFXIV economy wasn't always what it is today.

Back to the topic, I used to want a house of my own, but now I just want one of those apartment rooms I heard that they're considering.
