    RENT: A Better Housing Solution

I know, I know, "I paid a kajillion gil for this place, I don't wanna pay more for it!"

Don't worry, the plan for this wouldn't be to gouge anyone out of way more money than necessary. This is more an activity thing, better than the current 45-day login policy because it actually requires a homeowner to actually do something in-game beyond just logging in. Think of it like a subscription fee for your house, except better because it requires gil instead of your credit card (damn right I'm looking at those extra retainers)!

The rate would be simple: 0.1% of the cost of the property every two weeks. If that sounds cheap, that's because it's supposed to be. If you paid some chunk of gil for a piece of land--let's say 10 million--then the rent on that is only 10k, which can be made without even thinking about it. One or two roulettes or a couple of beast tribe dailies that day and voila, easily enough to cover the rent and maybe some extra for dyes or glamour crystals or anything that burns off that sweet, sweet pocket change!

"But that means I have to log in every other week instead of getting to wait a month an a half so I can keep my house!" You know what Mr. Whiny-pants? If you're not playing this game, then maybe you shouldn't waste our pixels. Ever been on a server with too much vacant property? Me neither, mostly because I have friends that aren't on dead servers, but that's beside the point. We want houses, not some monuments to players that have long since stopped caring about the game, hence why the better solution to housing is rent.

"But I won't have a home to come back to after taking a break for X months/years!" Don't fret, because anyone with housing permissions to pay it off can do so to keep your house just the way you left it so long ago....or they can completely trash the place because WHO CARES, YOU'RE NOT PLAYING ANYWAY! The overall objective of this plan is to ensure that housing property is owned by people still paying their subscription and possibly enjoying the game too.

What's the downside? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except for anything brought up by Mr. Whiny-Pants, but no one likes him anyway....

This is actually a fantastic idea!
It would also stop player's from buying up housing plots and trying to sell them, as the longer they hold onto the plot, the more money they're losing rather than gaining.

    (Like to summon Yoshi-senpai's attention~!)

The entire time of reading your post I was thinking, "Is The ShamWow guy you seen on TV ads on the ffxiv forums now"? Lol

Great idea otherwise I fully support this approach

Actually I was thinking more of that green Protostar guy from Wildstar, complete with that cheesy 50s marketing music.

Also thank you to those of you correcting my math, and has been readjusted to 0.1% to ensure that rent level stays the same. As you can tell, I'm no math major, just a guy who cares about the housing market.

The point is not having to worry about the amount, but rather that you have to do the activity. I liked the housing token idea too, but gil seemed more ideal to me since that's already a thing and it's easier to control rent pricing in case housing demands increases further.

If this started as a crybaby thread, then why are you the one crying about a reasonable suggestion for a housing solution? I respect your counterargument that those with housing deserve to keep it, and they rightfully should, but with the extra housing in 3.3 and the 45-day timer being just a few buckets of water on a wildfire, permanent housing is still not a suitable long-term plan, especially for new players who do want a house and can't because of people who have lost interest in the game.

It's neither reasonable, nor a solution. It's a poison ivy band-aid on a bullet wound.

How about you lose a level on each class every day unless you visit an NPC and perform some tedious task on every class? That's reasonable.

Or they add one house to each server? That's a solution.

In what world is this reasonable? How about we make new housing so overpriced people can't afford more than one? It's about as reasonable as your solution. c:
Anyways, i'm done talking to you and in your crybaby thread.

Check your math. 1% of 10,000,000 is 100,000 and not 10,000.

Lord of the rings online does this, you have to pay a upkeep fee weekly to keep the house active.
