Things you personally need from a UI?

Ability to play with minimal stuff on screen

This includes playing with /names off. Presently, the trouble one runs into when playing with /names set to off is that it's difficult to understand what's happening on your screen. A lot of the information is relayed through visualisations associated with the name above enemy's heads and also players' heads. Which enemies are engaged and also which enemies are attacking you is something that's sometimes hard to figure out if you're surrounded by action. Some way to have an indication as to which enemies are aggressive towards you while still having names off would be good. Also, some way of being able to hover your mouse over a player to see their name would also be good. At the moment, you have to physically click on the player if you want to see their name. Just being able to hover your cursor over their player-character to see their name would be a valuable addition.

    Hovering cursor over selectable objects

When targeting mobs, you have to click on the mob before you attack. Sometimes you end up clicking on yourself, another party member, or the wrong mob. This issue could be alleviated by an indicator which, when hovering your cursor over objects, informed you of which object you were about to select. It would remove a lot of the frustrating guesswork about targeting.

    Turning off clutter

There is a lot of clutter on screen. I would like to be able to minimise/close most windows. The new UI looks great but I'd rather be playing the game instead of the UI.

This is how I feel, I don't want a lot of add-ons and big frames all over my screen. I want a simple UI. I like the one currently, all I would like is to be able to add an action bar or two. I wouldn't mind adding more icons on the bottom right to get to things quicker like in the ui mock-up they showed. Like the Party menu, which currently is way to clumsy to find out who is in your party and what class.

I would like them to take advantage of the mini-menu option.

Turn it into the ability to hide windows i dont need.
make a Chat box button on it, so i can click it to hide/restore the main/battle chat windows.
Make a button so i can hide/always on the action bar/macro bars.
Make a button so i can hide/restore the Party window.
Make a button so i can hide / restore etc.

Seems like the easiest way to declutter the screen and make it accessible without a half hour of configuration.

I just want to be able to keybind the action and macro bars to something OTHER than 0-9. 0-9 is a good default to set your interface on while people figure out how the UI functions, but it's absolutely awful for regular use once you get acclimatized to the game.

Also, I'd like to be able to use Shift as a modifier for one of my macro bars; it's a lot easier to hit than CTRL or ALT.

I'd be happy with an option to toggle off my own name and maybe all mob names.
I only need PC names so I know who I'm talking to.

I really like that I can distinguish NMs from normal mobs by just looking on my mini map. Another reason to toggle enemy names off.

Also, it would make clicking on mobs easier. Often times I can't target the mob because there are too many party member names in the way.

I wouldn't really classify is as a NEED, but I think it'd be great to make use of a second monitor. Perhaps allow the chat windows and a few other windows be detached from the FFXIV container and moved to the second monitor.

    Just a thought.
