So, I'm finally leveling my fishies class. She's 41 atm (am reading a horror novel while leveling so the general killer boredom of a fishing class is somewhat lessoned.) I decided to do this because screw paying up to 200k for seaborne sands, amirite?

Anyway. The question is this: the status of 'the fishies sense something is wrong' is to prevent bots, right? Does this mean I shouldn't afk as a fisher in the map I want to fish at? I warped to CCH crystal while I was eating dinner and just went there to find I got that message. Does the game not recognize someone actually fishing, with the fishing line out, and a fisher on, say, a mount? Should I just not afk as a fisher at all?

regardless on where and how you AFK. the mesage will still pop up if you were fully active as well. just move to another fishing spot. cast once and move back.

Why would you EVER afk from fishing?!?! Many action! Much suspense! One slip up and you might miss the double mooch northern pike!!

Jokes aside, I find if I release too many fish, the "fish know what you're up to" message pops up earlier, but never ran into a problem while afk. So I just fill up my inventory and turn them in to a vendor. I'm no expert though. My fisher is only 50.

Really? Oh lord. That's kind of ridiculous, if you think about it. /sigh I'm not saying it hard or anything, and I've found I only need to move a little to either side to get the message to go away, but it's so strange. I can AFK as a miner either in a node or at the nodes for hours and hours, but not in a fishing hole? You make waaaay more gil with the other gatherers. I suppose the ease of staying in one spot helps though.

It is nice that we don't actually have to pay attention. The fishing class in my last MMO made it so you had to pay attention and click the little bobbing bait to collect the fish. =.=' This I can at least read a book. It's a scary one too. Q.Q People dying left and right. It makes up for having to stay in one spot like a crazy person clicking one of two buttons.

it's like a timer wich starts when you begin with the fishing. it's a bit random and varies from 30 mins to around one hour until the fish sense something. it doesn't matter if you actually are fishing the whole time. you can catch one fish, go away, return 6 hours later and then the fish will sense something... to reset the timer you have to either fish one time in another fishing spot or restart the game.

I usually fish when:

1. I'm bored waiting for timed nodes to pop.
2. I actually need them for food (Coerthan Oysters, Sweetfish etc.)
3. There's something I want for Aetherial Desynths (Some of the Aetherial fish are actually easy to catch, weather permitting.)

Between snags I either read a book, work on my patient's files, eat, or watch something (or someone >.>). All in all fishing is gathering with the least amount of effort and concentration. About the hardest part of it is knowing which type of snag to use when you're using Patience.

FSH was, in fact, the first DoL I made to 60. That was when no one really did FSH when HW came out. Half of what I made to pay for my house came from just selling HW FSH stuff.

Had the message even when fishing then going into duty and after done with duty wanted to fish again and got the message... just riddiculous lol
Luckily you usually just have to move a few steps for fishing on the same hole.

Want to know the best part about the message?
The fact that it causes you to abandon your fishing rod, so if you pop patience 1 or 2 you can get this message and the skill is dispelled, robbing you of your gp.
This has happened to me many times, and it'll make you want to break your rod in two sometimes.

Cool, never enjoyed MMO fishing before FFXIV. There is something strangely peaceful and addictive about it. And you can really appreciate the dynamic weather and artistic scenery built into the game.

You'll get the message once or twice an outing. Just move a few steps down the shore.

Fishing class is the least boring of all the gatherer classes in my opinion.
