Guys, Wildstar can do it, for every single player, even now when it is Free to Play.
Please stop making excuses on behalf of the company and making out we are being unreasonable. FFXIV advertises housing as a feature, new players are told you can own 'your own little slice of Eorzea', only for most people this isn't the case. There is nothing unreasonable about asking for housing for everyone who wants it. If other companies can do it then I don't see any reason why Square can't.

They just need to hike prices to the extreme. I know this isn't the popular option but it's the best one. Instanced housing is coming in the form of apartments but neighborhoods are a big part of housing. I love having neighbors and meeting random people. Instanced housing is a huge step backwards.
Its only instanced when you click the door, you would still have the wards and neighbors - alot more neighbors. The only difference is you and 100 other people have a house in the same spot.

I have only just started playing FFXIV, and to be honest, the housing situation looks pretty disheartening. My partner and I play the one character together, and while she likes dungeons and chatting to people, I love building, decorating and customising. So I was looking forward to eventually getting a small house and breeding chocobos of my own when all I can see online is that the prices are exorbitant, are being speculated on, the resources are very finite, and that those of us who have adult lives and can only put in a few hours a week might as well forget about it.

It's bad enough that on the PS4 chat is difficult, you can't talk to people, that the game is full of acronyms and that the screen is so crowded during dungeons that I can barely see what I'm doing... but that even in a nearly-completely cooperative game, there are have's and have-not's.

Lovely game... not really feeling the Final Fantasy-ness, though.

It a small blurb on a site most won't ever visit or even know exist. I would agree with you if they mentioned it on the store pages where person buys it form or on back of game case or even a mention on lodestone but it not. I'm not saying housing is perfect and does need a lot of improvement but you make it sound like they heavily promoting it.

Considering how cheap extra storage is these days, if they truely cannot afford to upgrade the servers to handle some extra housing then then there is really only two reasons for why:

    1) Someone at SE is way too stingy and tries to save money on the wrong things
    2) They have some very inflexible server setup that can't be upgraded without changing absolutely everything - in which case someone really screwed up when designing it.
I don't think you're aware of how costly networks are to run/maintain. My best guess is that they're using SAN which isn't cheap.

I also don't think for a second that they're "being cheap". I think that, given the costs of running those types of networks, they are making sure funds and interest are still there as they slowly allocate resources to that part of FFXIV. They're probably trying to avoid mass adding wards and having them destabilize or turn into ghost towns.

They are adding more housing, they're just not doing it as quickly as many would like, for w/e reason.

No, really it isn't a small mention tucked away somewhere obscure. I don't know why you are so vehemently insisting it is. Perhaps we are talking about two different websites? I am referring to this one: Official Square Enix FFXIV Promotional Site
Scroll down and you will see 'Housing: Your own little slice of Eorzea' promoted alongside, Gathering, Crafting, Free Companies, The Gold Saucer and Glamour, all of which are freely available to every player (with the exception of housing, of course).
This isn't some tiny, long-forgotten website from pre-ARR days, it's the official promotional site for the game and the first one that came up when I did a search.

Might not even be able to go in the house... and it'll just ask you which room you want to go into when you click on the main door... but we shall see!
That really sucks. It'd be awesome to be able to go into an apartment complex and with all the apartment doors in the corridors and then you could click on your own door to go into your room, and then in the complex you could check your emails outside your door, maybe chat with neighbours...

You have to scroll to the bottom of the site and that the only place anywhere for promotional stuff that housing is ever mentioned to new players so I stand by what I say.

I have one thing to say. If housing is so important to you guys, why not scout out a bunch of servers, find some available housing, and then transfer to that server?

PS - It's not meant to be spiteful, I just am curious why people haven't transferred to low pop servers for housing.

Are you forgetting that server transfers cost real money? Asking people to spend $18 (not to mention all but 1million of their gil), for a chance at finding open housing is utterly ridiculous.
