    Job Desirability in End-Game Content

    Hi all,

New to the game, looking to figure out which direction to head. I know the game allows you to play all jobs on one character, but I'd rather be focused on one particular job or two at first until I really learn the game.

My two choices right now are run a Summoner full time main job, or alternatively set myself up to run Bard/Machinist interchangeably based on group comp. No real preference between these two options.

My question is - are one of those job choices not really desirable in end-game content? Mostly talking getting into the raids. I don't want to spend a lot of time gearing and learning Summoner if no one's going to take me in a PuG.

    Thanks,

Both are desirable/viable for endgame content. With SUM, you are competing for BLM for the caster spot if a party only wants one caster. However, BRD/MCH are currently the only ranged physical dps classes. This role is also the least filled by the player base(imo that is.) I often see party finders with the caster slot filled, but the ranged slot is sitting empty. If you find a party that does not require a specific composition though, it doesn't matter the class you choose.

TLDR, do what I always say. Play what you want to play. Do just one job, or all three you picked. Have fun with the game!!

MCH/BRD are easier to find groups with in general as the support role tends not to be as popular as the pure DPS classes. Of the two, MCH is slightly more favoured this patch, although if you join a static running BLM + SMN they'll be more than happy for you to show up as a BRD. Also depending on how hardcore you are, you might join a static who doesn't care whether you play MCH or BRD, then you just pick the one you like better.

The seasonal popularity of MCH will also affect you indirectly if you end up going SMN, because if your raid is running a MCH they won't have a BRD which means you won't get foe requiem for those sweet parses.

At the end of the day anything can change as well, this is just the state of the game as it is now. There's no guarantee things will be the same by the time you hit 60, if 3.3 or 3.4 have come out by then. It's never a bad bet to play what you like best - there's always demand for good players.

I'm personally leveling up MCH that way I can switch interchangeably between BRD/MCH. Keep in mind that if you do level BRD/MCH once you get to the real ''endgame'' content, you'll really only have to get one set of gear since the two classes both wear any ''... of aiming'' gear. So the second my MCH hits 60 I'll be able to slap on all of my 220+ gear from my BRD (save the bow of course) and jump straight from whatever ilvl I happen to be at once I hit 60 to roughly 220+

This also applies if the OP decided to go with SMN, because then they could also pick up a BLM weapon and more or less be the same ilvl (depending on the weapon, of course).
