As for "waste dev time" I don't think it's any less of a waste than implementing female-only outfits in the first place, now THAT's a waste of time when you reduce the audience that can use it by a large margin, and for absolutely not reason.

on personal note i think all gender unlock gear should put in the mog station. if you want waste the dev time fine you going pay for the gears out your own pocket.
Well some people don't enjoy raiding so let's put raids on Mog Station because it's a waste of Devs time to them. Let's put crafting gear on the Mog Station too, because some people don't enjoy that. Don't forget gathering gear! Oh, a new class some people don't want to play? Waste of Devs time! Put it on Mog Station.

    ... you sound ridiculous.

    How far is too far?

I apologize if this seems harsh, but if you don't want to see something, don't look at it. It's not like seeing a guy walking around in a bikini is going to magically make you gay or something (Han Solo: "That's not how the gay works!"). If it makes someone else comfortable and/or happy, what right have you to deny them? It's not harming you in any way. But don't confuse your distaste with poor artistry. Just because you don't like something does not mean its quality is objectively poor.

If you're worried about gear looking bad on the atypical gender (read: a male Roe wearing a tutu), then I wouldn't. SE has done a very good job of making some pieces of gear look really good on both genders--even the skimpier pieces. Look at the Colisseum gear, or the swimsuit you get with the Cascadier Uniform Voucher; both are equally revealing on either gender (except Colisseum caster pants), and both pieces objectively look good.

SE cares very deeply about the visual aesthetic of the game, and about making sure stuff looks good. If and when they bring gear across gender lines, they'll make sure it looks good.

EDIT: I think a lot of people don't realize that when it comes to matters of sexuality, gender-binary-normativity, and similar topics, Japan is generally pretty conservative when compared with USian ideals. They're trying to cater to a Western audience, but doing some of these things needs to be weighed against how it could be construed in a global audience. It's all well and good to say that they should just stick to their guns and open things up anyway, but they need to consider whether or not doing so will cost them in their home markets. Yes, there is nothing saying users need to use gender-atypical attire, but opening the option could be construed negatively by conservative players, and cause them to lose interest on a moral ground (even as we USians and Europeans may see gender restrictions on gear as amoral). This isn't to say they shouldn't do it--FFXIV is already extremely progressive as Japanese games are concerned, and this would help solidify that reputation--but this is to say it's not as simple as we might think it is.

It's only too far if it actually affects other people in a meaningful way. Offending somebody's sense of aesthetics or sensibilities is not meaningful. As for dev resources, I'm sure they have some experience in figuring out how to manage their development cycle.

There is already an over abundance of dresses/skirt/kilts, whatever, that males are forced into wearing while leveling. However, I would like more male-centric equipment. It feels as if SE designers have stopped trying and are now soley focused on female and unisex gears. Just look at the mage sky pirate gear. You can't even pretend that's not a dress.

On the topic at hand, I'd love to have a bunny suit for my big hunky Roegadyn <3 and just think how cute the big fluffy ears would be in cojunction my thick beard x3

An since me and my friends plan to try and have a catwalk of sorts in our eventual FC house, this type of stuff would be awesome for entertainment nights ^^

I'd love some more subligar type equipment for the men to be honest, more male centric gear would be quite nice as well.

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
