It's a magic book with sacred geometry. Also casters have been using tomes, grimoires, spell books, etc... in fantasy for forever so...

not my problem that you need a notebook which tells you how to use your skills, I however defend myself with a scythe and use spells at the same time, I am so much cooler.

1) No you don't. There aren't any scythes in this game for combat. If you defend yourself with a Scythe as a Botanist while threshing wheat...pretty sure anything at level will kill you.

2) By default of saying "I am so much cooler" you are automatically not cool at all.
