It was rofl back in 2.5 when people had t13 on farm, and then devs removed lockouts, added it to DF, and tanks suddenly unable to enter it because of not enough ilvl, because they used ilvl 110 crafted jewelry for whole right part of gear.
Yeah, on the DF. This proposed change wouldn't apply to DF, only to premades.However, there are still way too many people who reach Steps of Faith and can't clear it because they've been carried through all content (and yes, I say STILL because the other day a friend was stuck in one run where they got Vishap to 50% by the time they got to last gate).
Undersized was definitely a thing before 3.0. If I'm remembering right, what it didn't allow you to do at first was actually queue "undersized" with a full party anyway.Oh also the undersized party option was not a "thing in ARR that disappeared with HW." No it was not. Undersized was introduced with Heavensward.
It was then patched later to allow full parties
Okay, I looked it up and I see why I was confused -- it was definitely available to me before I had access to HW, but that was because of the mishaps I had with "early access" >_>No it was not. Undersized was introduced with Heavensward.
It's already bad enough that people cheat their item levels just to get into the high level duties.
There have been many cases where I've seen someone with mostly low level gear, and they simply buy a ring or something to boost their item level to get in. They usually end up underperforming and causing more harm than good.
There's also the cases where people cheat their item level by using gear for another class on the class they want to get in with. Which also leads to more performance loss.
I cant see any reason that anyone would want someone to join their party when they cant even meet minimum requirements.
I don't think removing the Ilvl for premade and undersized is a good idea, but I would like to tone it down somehow: a friend of mine just reached 60 a few weeks ago but she couldn't do any dungeon because it required 170 at minimum (despite the first dungeon drops 160 loot and...wait why does the roulette is locked at 170 if the very first loot is 160? -Mindblown-).
So what happened was I spent about 1m-2m gil to help her reaching the required Ilvl before we could do the dungeons together. I gave her some ideas for gathering item levels like hunts (which didn't work well) and dailies (which she didn't unlock yet and doesn't want yet) but suffice to say it would've taken weeks before she could do just the normal roulette so I had to speed it up. All this to show that this could be a struggle for new players when they reach 60. It wouldn't be such an issue if they kept the old 170 loot available though or something but as soon as a new player reaches 60, he or she might have troubles to gather enough gear to have the least required item level. Craftable gear is one but she only had about 200-400k gil to spend. I spent nearly 2m for her gear.
This should count at least for normal 60 roulette anyway: expert and anything else shouldn't count. I might be wrong though but this is just my experience with an actual real new player by my side.

Why didn't hunts go well? The old 170 law gear was moved to Centurio Seals and you can get around a full set of 170 gear just by doing the daily and weekly centurio hunts for a week. You also get the items to upgrade to 180 in the same manner.

That's another issue, and a misstep in the ilvl progression. In 2.x, items from a dungeon always gave you an ilvl high enough to enter the next tier.I don't think removing the Ilvl for premade and undersized is a good idea, but I would like to tone it down somehow: a friend of mine just reached 60 a few weeks ago but she couldn't do any dungeon because it required 170 at minimum (despite the first dungeon drops 160 loot and...wait why does the roulette is locked at 170 if the very first loot is 160? -Mindblown-).
Amdapor Keep/Sirius/Copperbell/Haukke = ilvl 60 gear -> City of Amdapor/Brayflox HM/Halatali HM : 55 required and drop 70, etc...
Here, there is a really steep progression from Fractal/Neverreap to Sirius HM/Arboretum.
In fact the whole ilvl range has been a mess because they had to separate dungeons from normal raids from savage raids...
