For the love of God why...why do they "get away"...

I've been farming for "The Lone Ripper" and "Ogloi-Khorkhoi" and my gathering is 422 with my perception at 346 at level 55....and yet still they "get away" 90% of the time. Why? How do I stop the madness? What must I do?

"Why are you farming those old fish anyway?" Because our lords at SE have decided that desynthing only these fish is the /only/ way to get "Waterproof Cotton"...and that is an ingredient in the Coeurl Beach Halter...which I am trying to gift a friend. You know. Once I get this awful cotton...

I use Patience I to increase my chances at HQ Storm Riders for the mooch...it helps but they still just "get away"

Only the gathering stat matters, it has to be above a certain threshold to go on higher level missions.

There's a catch rate cap on (almost?) every ARR big fish. I'm currently doing the Feast of Famine quest, and routinely lose fish with a gathering requirement of under 400, when I have 635.

I got soooo lucky doing that quest the past month; only had the legend get away twice (once each for thanalan and coerthas).

Man they should introduce some common fish in Heavensward that can be culinarian desynthed for Waterproof Cotton or just some alternative way.... zzzz my gift is not gonna get made for my friend.
