For variants of animations, i would rather see Iaido stance, or just quick-draw stance for SAM.
Really, i know that in sheated-weapon-state SAM will have the sword drawn, but i still hope for some unsheated blade animations.
Now to the facts:
Yoshi didn't say, he wants SAM to be dps, he said, he would like to see SAM as dps. Probably out of curiosity.
...Thou I dare you, i double dare you... don't you dare mention SAM as dps... Otherwise Tank spot will be filled with some weird stuff like RDM or BST or weird things like that that gives me shivers and wake up late at night with scream.
If SAM was implemented as tank, it would probably be more towards WAR like system, since DRK was more like PLD in general mitigation working system.
Building up Gouge stacks on enemies to use on them high-potency attacks? Thou it would suck, since you loose stacks when mob dies. maybe as OT stance.
Thou i see SAM as stance dancing tank focused on single target punishing. Since WAR has some decent AoEs (however still cannot be compared to DRK of course), i have some hopes, for AoE lacking Single-Target Cheesing with a bit of support skills straight from FF tactics (which were called Iaido btw, but thats totally not what Iaido is! Terrible translation or just huge mistake! ***The More You Know...***)
Also, i wonder what kind of Core ability would be used. i just hope nothing like "Your HP cannot fall below 1"...
As for magic damage dealing, there is no really point in that. Since if i have noticed correctly, magic dmg are based on weapon base dmg, and that makes magic dmg with a potency of 150 absolutely same as physical dmg with a potency of 150, on same weapon, except that there is a mana cost. DRK do not deal more dmg with Unmend that Low Blows, and both are 150.
Until they fix elemental damage (I didn't notice difference on any character, any monster, anywhere, any element) i would rather to just make some attacks look fancy enough to call them magical + add mana cost to them. Like DRKs Unmend, Unleash, Abbysal Drain i.e.
Next. RDM tank. You made a great job with planning RDM as tank. Really nice. Discarded.
I, and probably 70% of community, do not want to trasform FFXIV into TERA, where half-naked Lolis wearing robes or rags tank busters with their fluffy butts, casting Limit breaks as their normal combo.
Red Mage is a mage. Those type of smart wizards, that use fancy magic, need a casting time and robes. (DRK is not an argument here, he has spells as typical enmity control skills, and they are not a part of any chain combo.)
Do you want a good tank class fitting gameplay and overall game mechanics,
or easier to play favourite class with faster DF queues?
Becuase thats how it looks like. Like you do not want to sweat over DPS rotation to pump your best or to sweat over DF queuing time...
In the original translation of FFT the ability was called "Draw Out," since Iaido was about drawing the katana and the Draw Out ability was about drawing out the spirits of the katana it makes sense sorta.Thou i see SAM as stance dancing tank focused on single target punishing.
So they wanted to play it cool. Well,
We have Meat Shield and Meat Axe titles, rather than original names White Knight and Blood Warrior,
so i am not surprised at all xD

Guess I will dare to call it a dps job, then! So far, all the jobs that can use swords are tanks (PLD/DRK), it's about time they'd add a dps job that uses a sword.
Making SAM a dps job doesn't mean they'd have to force RDM or BST into a tank role, just for the sake of having a new tank job.
They could even come up with something new, a tank job based on Rhitahtyn sas Arvina:
Unless I'm weird for thinking a tank job that uses gunshields would be neat.
But this is already possible with the glamour system. Not that I agree with the concept of a RDM tank, just saying this reason against it is silly.
Nah, that seems really awesome tbh! Although I could see something like that coming out in 5.0 or 6.0. As we're hinted at going into Garlean territory in a future expansion.
I am afraid things like gunblades, gunpunches and gunshields will come out not faster than 6.0 or 5.0 when MSQ plot will start to get sexy around Garlemald conquering.
But i think it is possible, they would be actually first exclusive classes for FFXIV., since Those are actually almost fully designed classes already. Not just empty pics, they were in battle. in mechanics.
Let's be honest. How many more classes there is in FF series, that they yet didn't implement, and woudn't be forcely implemented, cause lack of ideas and templates? 2 or 3? (don't gimme bullshit around mime or time mage, those have to be unique classes, that do not have even part of skills already existing in our classes we already have!)
They will have to add those GunThings our villains were using to pull back some players in 3 or 4 years, when FF XXVIII will break the system.
Until they want to redesign whole FFXIV battle system, allowing for more modifications in personal idea of class gameplay.
Then new classes and higher level tiers will be unnesseccery.
Time Mage is Astro though so rip Time Mage.

im not entirely sure about magic damage vs physical damage, look at all casters and healers weapon damage compared to tanks and melee and ranged, when i think about it pld cure is still worse than a smns or blms(loved that flaw in 2.x it really drove me nuts to no end) so I think that drk was somehow bent against the laws of what normally happens much like how ninjutsu is (they call it a spell but its calculated as an ability but foes actially works on its dmg output)
I really wonder what the jp forums are debating or if theyre perfectly fine not debating this, i imagine they having some similar debates over this but i could be wrong
