I still vote DPS for Samurai but only cus I want some kind of sword user as a DPS. They always seem to end up as the tank in some degree. Also to note, while I recall them saying they won't release 3 jobs at the same time, that wouldn't stop them from say releasing 2 new jobs then during 4.2 release a 3rd.
Samurai will be a dps but me personally dont want old jobs to come back to the game from XI
But look at this
Pld/ war/ drk = Vitality
Whm/ ast / sch = Mind
Mech/ nin/ bard = Dexterity
BLM/ SMN = Intellect
Drg / Mnk = strength
Going by this i believe we will see a INT or STR base dps this is for certain for all we know they could be making a brand new job from using all of the resources from XI
Example would be AST which is a combination of WHM/SCH and corsair (cards)
But i really hope its not Geomancer, rune fencer, samurai, beast master, puppeteer, dancer, etc leave it all behide and make somethink new
Id love an exorcist for a healer or dpsbut thats me and im thw minority

Anything with blade always goes to tank roles... But I really want this job as DPS.
For the most part, they're not Final Fantasy XI Jobs, they're just Final Fantasy Jobs... This is a Final Fantasy game, so they're likely to focus on the iconic Final Fantasy Jobs rather than make their own thing... Part of their goal with this game is to appeal to nostalgia, so I doubt they'd do something silly like Bravely Default did... That said, I wouldn't mind some Bravely Default/Second Jobs making their way over in some form... We seemingly gave them Astrologian, so it only seems fair... Wizard + Fencer in particular seems like a great way to implement Red Mage here IMO (fencing stances + magic crafting, perfect).
The only new Job Final Fantasy XI added was Puppet Master, arguably Rune Fencer too, but I'd say that's close enough to the Mystic Knight/Runic Knights of FFV/VI. Although if I'm going to get into that, I'm fairly sure Puppet Master was just Edgar with a pet... I think some of the pet attachments even shared some of the names with his Tools gimmick.

I really don't think they're using the primary stats as a basis for balancing the type of jobs they're bringing.
Let it be a dps since we need more dps. In fact I hope they add 4 dps in 4.0
Samurai dps please, having two tanks basically using 2h swords would just be a bad joke. I think Blue Mages should be tanks, but thats just me. Red Mage I honestly can't see them being anything but dps... Not a whole lot of FF staples that can be healers.
It's not necessarily a matter of increasing the number of tank players. Ideally you want to entice players to at least try to play tanks as they're are the most in-demand role. When DRK came out, it got plenty of people to try it, so the number of tank players did spike, though they would eventually settle down to around their usual number.Do people that hate tanking really get into the profession with the introduction of new jobs? I know that a lot of people did when DRK was introduced but I'm not sure how many stuck around. At HW launch it was easier to just assume that if you were healing a DRK that they would be a DPS in disguise and that they, more likely than not, wouldn't be using Grit or anything else that may lower their damage in some way. I haven't seen anyone like that since the first couple of months of HW but I for real wonder how many of them just gave up on tanking and how many of them stuck it out and became good tanks. I feel like this would be a really interesting statistic to see but I also feel like we never actually will see it so who knows, right?
By the way, this isn't really for or against Samurai being a tank, it could be cool either way. It's just kind of a thing that I've always wondered when I see these kinds of threads.
The main thing however, is that you don't want the number of tank players to go down. Which is exactly what will happen if they simply add new DPS jobs. You will have tank players switching to DPS which only hurts the game. This is why it's important to introduce new tank roles regularly more-so than probably any other role. Especially ones that have popular appeal such as a Samurai does, it has a big following requesting it to be added to the game.
I don't know about healers trinity whe have now, but tanks are very unbalance in MT OT role, in 4.0 whe need a new strong OT how match warrior for OT spot, samurái can be perfect for that but if SE choose samurái for a dps spot then meaby i expect templar like a tank, 2 dps in the expansión is so much and whe have a lot of then now.
