Just remember the interview with yoshi and how he said if Samurai goes the Tank route it would be called "Shogun" and if DPS would be called "Samurai".
Can anyone explain why he associates those roles with said names?

Shoguns are usually the Samurai with higher stats thus having access to more fancy and heavy armor people tend to picture as "Samurai Armor".
Samurai, based on their stats in society and/or what they can obtain has their armor vary in type as Millerna said
Not all Samurai had access or used heavy plated type armor nor have access to it.

Actually that's essentially true of all fighters from European Knights to Norse Raiders (Vikings). Essentially more money = more protection. Not every Knight was in "Shining Armor" (Full Plate) because that stuff was crazy expensive. Some would wear anything from again padded leather, thick cloth, chain mail, splint mail and anything and everything in between.Shoguns are usually the Samurai with higher stats thus having access to more fancy and heavy armor people tend to picture as "Samurai Armor".

This is a fairly typical set of armour for a low-ranking samurai (from a fairly late time period):

(there's several more images, just change the '28' in the url. They show detail bits as well.)
Obviously, not all samurai had armour, many were forced to sell it during times when there was no war (and thus no real need for samurai). Once the arquebus (tanegashima) became more popular, they started using more foot soldiers (ashigaru) which were more often than not peasants trained to use the arquebus. So again, samurai weren't quite as much needed during those times, especially since ashigaru were much cheaper to employ.
Either way, what it comes down to, is that samurai were trained in multiple weapons and multiple fighting styles. So, they could go either way really (even from a historical point of view)

Actually I personally hope it comes out like Yojimbo in FFX. Every party member has to pay the Samurai and based on how much he gets paid he will unleash a single devastating attack. Yojimbo was the greatest, coolest summon with the best intro.
Oh look it's literally the Anime trope I was talking about in a Final Fantasy game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hxh2kx75aSY
But tell me you don't want to saunter out under the moonlight and one shot the boss![]()

Yojimbo is actually a Ronin. lol
My desire for SAM is more of the armored type, and hopefully one that deals with Oni. I love Oni so much, and would like to see it incorporated somehow, so tropes like this:But tell me you don't want to saunter out under the moonlight and one shot the boss![]()
If you know where this is from, you're already cool.
Your Samurai lore is definitely better than mine. lolWhen I think of Samurai i remember the tales of Musashibō Benkei, and Tadakatsu Honda. Two samurai that basically Tanked armies for their lords. While they were not regarded for their sword skill, their martial skill was as legendary as their loyalty and honor. (seriously Benkei pulled of a Cuchulain in real life)
Definitely. It's why I love it so much, because they delve into all the questions that I would have when I think about a scenario of us getting sucked into a videogame. Really hope season 2 didn't turn them off from continuing the series. And yes Log Horizon is one of my favorite anime, love they way they break down in game nuances.

Ronin Warriors!!! Armor of wildfire douchi!!! Hell yeah samurai should summon different armors onto themselves for different attacksYojimbo is actually a Ronin. lol

I too love Ronin Warriors. Although I will point out - I point to Yojimbo as an awesome Samurai and get corrected "he's a Ronin". Then a picture appears of an "Oni" from a show called literally "Ronin" Warriors.
Also I liked Seige (Sage?) the best. Whatever Samurai is it needs to have it's limit break be Anubis' QUAKE WITH FEAR!!! move.
Giant chains burst from the ground chaining up the enemy boss then the ground shakes and deals...the standard 3 gauge bar limit break amount of damage...but definitely feels way more powerful than any other LB.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arZh117iVQs SAM LB please. <3
Some more Quake with Fear goodness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYf8znTyGpw

The show is named Yoroiden Samurai Troopers in Japan....
Id prefer the Rage of Inferno

Lol. Well Ronin Warriors was a power ranger esque Samurai show, which was definitely awesome, but you didn't see me linking images of the main characters. lol
That said, again, I'm not against the idea of Ronin. In fact, I think they could very easily differentiate a Tank and DPS by doing something like dual katanas for Tank since they don't have anything like that atm:
And something like this for DPS:
However, if I was forced to choose between a heavily armored SAM versus a robed ronin-type, I would always choose the heavily armored one.
In regards to LBs, I had an idea for a tank LB where an army of undead Ashigaru rise up and use fortifications to defend their "lord." You can use this, Yoshida. Royalty free.
You take that back! My childhood is falling apart here!"That show was trash we're not basing anything off that."![]()
Seriously though, I'm not really asking for much other than the use of "oni" in relation to SAM from that show. lol
Not really. It won't affect raiding too much, but I never made that point to begin with. I merely point out that it helps at a time when people are going to need it the most and be judging their MMO the most.
Something new? I think a healer that could turn on a melee stance when they don't need to heal sounds already interesting enough. Will we get it? Not sure. It could easily be a DPS, but I think if they add BLU, which I heavily expect that they will and should, then 2 melee caster DPS will be a little too redundant imho.what's the point of making rdm, healer?
