Not to belittle your reference, but that's not the first time procedural dungeons were done in a game. It's a pretty old concept that goes as far back as the PS1 with Azure Dreams, maybe even farther. But this is likely based more on the dungeons of the XI expansion Treasures of Aht Urhgan or Deep Dungeon from Tactics.

You didn't play Tam Tara Hard? That has a similar feel and it predates even Bloodborne's ad campaign.

Yeah! The Lufia games had these. They're like the Mysterious dungeon games which are insanely popular in japan.

This is another thing with potential to be a great thing.

Yoshida described it as casual content, but with leaderboards being implemented I'm guessing it has some hardcore value to people who want to push the extreme edge for maximum performance.

The way it is different each time you enter is a remedy for the biggest flaw with pve in this game, in that's it's all highly repetitious scripted encounters that are the same every run. If deep dungeons are using randomly generated floors, then it will be the first pve content in the game to offer some unpredictability.

Considering all of the above, I hope deep dungeons are (1) fun enough to live up to our expectations and (2) popular enough to displace regular dungeons as something worthy of more development time so we can create a new paradigm for the game where more resources are put into things like this than the repetitive standard dungeons.

In the discussion they said leaderboards would be separate per job, so WHM soloists would only be rated against other WHM soloists and so forth.

Also, given the fact that you start at lv 1, they could actually use this as an opportunity to introduce jobs that wouldn't work in the current PVE environment. I recall them commenting how if they were to introduce a job like Blue Mage, they wouldn't want to take away what make sit special, it's ability to have a wide range of monster skills to pull from.

So with Deep Dungeon, this definitely does look like the best opportunity to introduce new jobs that are only accessible within said dungeon experience.

Casual, minigame content, will never be a reason to release new jobs. Plus they have stated on differnt occaisons that they will not be introducing new jobs mid expansion again.

What I meant, and probably should have stated, is that without progressive gear tied to it, it takes tima away from the gear treadmill that is essentially forced on us. People will opt to cap and the like first, depleating the amount of people running it. The ability to run solo should help this a bit though, and if they tie some tomes to it.

Glamour freak here though, so it should be good for me.

I would hope that deep dungeons have more value than minigames. That's not the impression I get from this. It sounds like something quite expansive and with good potential. You make a good point in your other reply about content without progression gear rewards being sidelined in a game where gearing up is required. In that case I would hope that deep dungeons can offer something valuable to progression at least as an option, like anima weapon progress or rare material drops.

edit: actually an easy fix to make something relevant to large amount of people is just slap tomestones on it. maybe they could rewards tomes for reaching certain floors in the deep dungeon? providing the player has at least one max level battle class, tomes could be added to rewards to help reach weekly caps.

The person you quoted didn't actually say anything about adding jobs in the middle of a patch series. Their meaning was that future jobs that couldn't fit into certain content due to balancing issues, would have deep dungeons as one of the paths they could take. Yoshida has previously given thought to adding Blue Mage as a solo job, something restricted from Duty Finder in order to preserve its identity without disrupting balance.
