How many stars needed to reach the 15th chocobo race challenge rating?

Hi,

I'm waiting for my P9 chocobo and i read that to reach max rating you need at least 17 stars or something like that but i dont want to spend too much time breeding chocobos, i want to clear the challenges and thats it.

So how many stars do my chocobo need to reach the 271 rating required?

The formula to achieve a certain rating is as follows:

(Combined Max Stats/500) x (Rank+10) = Rating

Substituting values in:

(Combined Max Stats/500) x (50+10) = 271

Simplifying:

Combined Max Stats = 271*500/60=2258

So you would need a star rating to get at least 2258. Divide that by 5 to spread it to all the stats, we get 452

Formula is:

Maximum = 40 * (pedigree level + star rating) – 20

Substitute:

452 = 40 * (9 + star rating) – 20

Simplify:

Star Rating = 1.8

So you would need an average of 2*s in all stats to make it. Multiply that by 5 to get the total amount of stars needed, and you'd get 9 stars total.
It seems like if you have a capped pedigree 9 chocobo, you'd have to try hard to be unable to be eligible for that race.

I should mention that I've heard that race is nearly impossible even with a maxed chocobo, so barely having the rating to enter may make the race even tougher. High cunning may help, though.

It's annoying for sure. I just kept repeating it till I got lucky, but I hear people have good success by focusing on sabotaging the opponents rather than being the fastest in the race. If you can use items to drain the stamina of the special NPCs so that they finish behind you, then it doesn't matter if your own speed isn't uber.

There is something wrong with the math there, because just from experience at P9 I know you can get max rating of r300 with 20 stars, r295 with 19 stars, and r290 with 18 stars. Progressing from there, 15 stars would put you at r275, and 14 would be max r270, so a 15 star bo should be the lowest that can get you in the race.

It's just as Zorafin says though, it's not an easy race to win just because you have P9. I have done it with an 18 star bo, but it had been fed grade3 food with a solid stat and skill strategy. I wouldn't recommend trying it with less than 19 stars unless you know what you're doing.

I looked into it and yes you need at least 14 stars in fact.
I had a chocobo with 13 stars and his max stats = 2220 and you need 2258 so 14 stars will do (in theory...)

Good luck with it I'd be curious to know just how rough-around-the-edges a bo could be and still do it.

The 18 star bo was the one I had when the patch dropped, and I one-shotted it. But when I leveled my alt's bo to a 19 star, I tried it again and had a lot of difficulty with it: even having fed grade 3 food. It was about 12 races before the opponent made a big enough mistake that I could edge ahead.
