My Experience as a New Feast Player

AST into Ranked...I didn't exactly know how to heal PvP, besides FL and Feast 8 v 8.

Team curbstomped, I was told to never go into ranked ever again. Fair enough. I was bad.

I got nothing when I asked what I could do better though.

    Tried my other 60 classes:

BLM: I only have 1 GCD and Sleep, Freeze, and Fire IV are all on it. Nightwing has a long CD. Who do I even attack?! Do I bother with Thundercloud? I'm confused.

WAR: "Burst Someone" Uh... The BLM or WHM? I can't do both... Once again, confused.

Read a bit on this forum, and I've decided to go level BRD. The idea of Barraging Empyreal Arrows at people sounds fun in 8 v 8 at least.

    Questions I have:

Where is a new player supposed to actually learn how to... well. PvP?

How long should a player be in 8 v 8 before they finally can try 4 v 4?

How do I practice PvP rotations? Is there a "PvP Dummy" anywhere?

How much attention should I actually pay to people telling me to just get out of ranked?

Basically you just gotta go in and try your best and learn from the mistakes of you and your team mates. People will tell you to 8v8 just do 4v4 you'll get more comfortable with it trust me. As for PvP dummies they're on the top floor of the ship at wolves den pier. People telling you to stop playing ignore them they don't know shit and they're probably salty cuz they bad.

None. Practice makes perfect and everyone wants to be near perfect. As long as you learn and you're willing to learn, you will get better.

Where is a new player supposed to actually learn how to... well. PvP?
Understanding your basic abilities come first, then learn/read how to apply them in different situations and adapt them to your play style/ personality. Your combinations/ awareness of what to do will become instinct with practice.

Different people play differently and this is extremely relevant in PVP as it is humans vs humans, understanding psychology is something that may help as you will also be thrown with 3-7 other humans.

In the end, theory only gets you so far as practice grinds instinct and feedback to your current expertise.

The best places to learn would be Frontlines and 8v8.

How long should a player be in 8 v 8 before they finally can try 4 v 4?
    Until you are comfortable.

Wolf's Den Pier has some on the upper level.

How much attention should I actually pay to people telling me to just get out of ranked?
    Ignore them.

I'd say a great way to learn 4v4 pvp is to go as a team into the 4v4 partied with your friends. Sure, you'll probably lose a lot, but you will have the freedom to get the feel of 4v4, without being cursed at by salty players. Watching how the other pvp team plays could be a good learning experience too. The problem is finding 3 friends to go with you though :/

Chances are if he queues premade 4's he's just gonna face a near diamond team and get mopped and learn nothing, but idk how active the premade queue really is.

There's plenty of unranked, bronze, and silver teams out there last I checked.

Fold is also an option and unranked. You can bring a healer and a tank for your queue times and go in 2's or 3's as well.

Always start casually. That means Frontlines or 8 versus 8 Feast. Between the two, 8 v 8 Feast will be more likely because 1) queue times are much shorter than FL, and 2) it follows the same general rules as 4 v 4 Feast; so, you'll be learning the game mode while you practice. You'll also (hopefully) run into less rage in 8 v 8, because it's un-ranked. People don't care as much about a loss, because the consequences aren't as dire and there's no qualifiers. You'll also have the added benefit of being able to hide behind 7 other players on your team. There's more people to cover your slack, and you can watch what they do to pick up some tips and tricks.

The one downside is that the screen is a lot more cluttered in casual game modes than it is in 4 v 4, so, to the un-trained eye, it can be a little more difficult to tell what's going on. It's kind of similar to 24 man raids, in that way. The first time you do it you'll probably be overwhelmed by just how many players there are, but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.

That varies from player to player. The things you're most likely going to want to get comfortable with are paper tanking, keeping an eye on your surroundings, and learning which parts of your kit you actually use in PvP, but most of this stuff comes with experience. Your rotations and utility are not the same as in PvE, so it takes some practice. Knowing which targets take priority is also a matter of experience. Sometimes the best way to learn is to dive in, so I'd advise just trying to get a firm grasp of the basics, and, when you're comfortable in your role, take the plunge into 4 v 4.

Wolves Den pier. All PvP actions are unlocked in that map. Go to the top of the ship (inside and up the stairs on the left) and you'll find PvP dummies where you can test out your skills.

Keep in mind that it's not all about the rotation, though. A lot of PvP is utility over dps. Knowing when to sleep, stun, or bind targets, for example, is very important. Each class has different utility that they can fill. Knowing it will help you improve how well you play in the actual arena, but it's impossible to test out your full utility on a training dummy. For that, you'll need field experience, which means theory crafting and throwing yourself to the wolves to test out what you think you know.

I'm not going to say "none," because, honestly, the consequences of getting an untested player on your qualifying matches are pretty horrible. Going into a ranked PvP match with zero PvP experience under your belt isn't helping anyone.

That said, you should never, EVER, quit a game mode because someone else says you shouldn't be there. Solo-queue is there for everyone to play, not just the experienced PvP'ers, and nobody is perfect. This isn't PvE, where all the fights are scripted. You have to think on your feet. Mistakes are bound to happen. I've been playing since the original WD and I still make just as many mistakes as the next guy. Quite honestly, most of the people who spend time typing insults and complaints in the chat box often don't even know what they're talking, so I wouldn't take what they say seriously. Honestly, any good PvP'er knows that they really don't have time to type out complaints if they're doing your own role well. So, anyone who's been complaining to you is probably making just as many, if not more mistakes than you are.

Once you get some experience under your belt, don't be afraid to jump back into 4 v 4. It will still be a learning process when you get in there, so don't get discouraged by any rage machines you run into.

    My first experience

Remember guys it's easy to point players in another direction, but Frontlines and Light party are not always an option due to queue times. And old wolves den Is probably no longer a viable option. Especially if you do not have all day to wait in 30min - Endless queues. 8v8 is also dying at certain times of the day. Can't hurt to tick the boxes though I guess.

Get your experience anywhere and everywhere.. It's all good. If you want to be good in 8v8, do 8v8. If you want to be good in seal rock, do seal rock. And for 4v4... You guessed it. You do have the option to que for them all too, which is neat. If you are reading this post then take the time out to read another post regarding what feast is about. (Look at the posts where people complain about other players if you have to...) Ask players around you if they have done it, what it's about and if they have any tips. This will allow you to not be/feel completely clueless. 4v4 light party might not be the best idea to learn. Bcause if you are all new vs a decent team, your matches will end swiftly and this will probably not encourage you to play more lol. There is nothing wrong with being new so don't be ashamed. Everyone one of us here had to learn some way some how.

If you read up on your PVP skills. Learn the mechanics of the game you're interested in. They are all good starts. But you get the best experience from the game type you're interested in. Don't worry you won't struggle forever. Especially if you get to play against your own skill level more. But for that we need far more of you to play not less. Even for the match making system to work at its finest, it needs a healthy selection of players to choose from.

Apparently Straigus and Nex get 3hr queues! Bwahahahaha!!! Sorry but that cracks me up. Poor guys. "Nope! You're not allowed in here! You're too strong, Please wait!" - Matchmaking

Try to ignore the ones who rage at you. I'm sorry but I can't help with that issue lol. Just try your best!

I welcome you to the feast!

Well, thank you for the responses. I'm soon to be a 60 Bard and I'll probably be taking that in 8 v 8 for a while. When I feel brave enough I'll probably see how I fare in ranked.
