    Playstation 4.5 Feedback, Speculation, Thoughts.

If you're a bit late to the new like I am, here's some links.

Please be aware that there is language in the Youtube video below.

    Article.
What you need to know about the PlayStation 4.5.

I don't agree with this.. It's a big finger to the consumers buying a PS4 recently because soon the console they just bought will be slightly outdated, and that doesn't feel fair.

I agree with Colin that they should just wait a few more years and call is PlayStation 5..

I never thought Sony could screw them self so badly, they're doing so good right now!!! Why!!!

I don't even know if FFXIV will change with this. And what about FFXV??

The only good point I can see with this is they lower the current PS4 price so people can just pick that up for cheaper -_-.

The key point is that all new games must support both the old and new PS4 configurations.

So owners of the original PS4 can still play every game that gets released, while people who feel like upgrading can enjoy higher resolutions or framerates in every new release.

It's just adapting consoles to the same way all other consumer electronics work, like different versions of iPhone coming each year, or the New 3DS which is faster.

The PS4 is not a iPhone or a 3DS and nor should it "adapt" as fast as these. -_-

But it did. So it is. As it does. As it will do.

I think it will just change that in future the games have an option in the configs to choose between PS4 mode or PS4.5 mode.

the NEO is very real, and coming later this year, and what you said is about all it really will do, it's not going to massively jump games to a "next gen" or anything like that, it's very, very small upgrades, as I said in my larger post, most likely to backend the PSVR that's coming.

It'll be an option, or the game data will automatically select when the game is loaded/installed, I'd prefer an automatic select, myself.

Its... really not that big a deal. It is an upgrade, but its not a complete console gen leap upgrade. Besides that, this isn't the first time Sony has done this. They have always upgraded all their platforms over time.

As for FF14, again, the difference between vanilla PS4 and Neo won't be that noticeable compared to how the game runs on PS3 vs PS4.

Maybe not to you, but this is a slap in the face to those that just bought the PS4 and a future headache for game developers thta now have to make two versions for the same game just because Sony wanted to make a unnecessary(subjective) upgrade. And no, they haven't upgraded consoles in this way. Sure the PS1/PS2/PS3 upgrades might have ran smoother, didn't overheat as much or were physically slightly different, but there wasn't a literal hardware change like this.

Whether FFXIV changed is strictly up to Sony, as current PS4 games are optional to patch for Neo.

the hardware increase isn't all that significant, I notice the article you linked didn't give any of the hardware specs that it'll have, I didn't watch the video though, but:

Original PS4 CPU - 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz

NEO CPU - 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz

Original PS4 GPU - AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz

NEO GPU - Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz

    Original PS4 Memory - 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s

    NEO Memory - 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

    as you can see, it's an upgrade, but it's rather a small one, now, I know, lots of people find this to be a horrible thing, but;

    PS1
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_models
    PS2
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2_models
    PS3
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_models
    PSP

you can easily see the differences made there, and can cross reference by looking up the Serial/SKUs. This is not a bad thing to do, if anything it gives a longer life expectancy per generation, and you're not going to be locked out of being able to play new games without a new console (*cough*nintendo*coughcough*).

There actually ARE *LITERAL* hardware changes, if you look at the pages I linked.

Ultimately, the changes will most likely be about as noticable as what you see if you put an SSD in a ps4 in comparison to a HDD with FFXIV. It runs a little faster, but it's not going to be something that gives such a difference that people will be obligated to run out and upgrade asap. These changes HONESTLY are most likely more for the VR portion of the console, as they will be capable of holding a more stable fidelity within the VR environment with these upgrades, since dropping frames, etc can lead to severe nausea.

Final edit: At least they're not pulling a nintendo and making games that will ONLY run on the PSNeo, leaving all of us that bought one early on out in the dust, like Nintendo is doing with the 3DS family.

I suppose what I should have said is there were never hardware changes that required the game developers to separate the two consoles by making two versions of the same game for each old and upgraded versions.
