Out-Leveling Content as i go through the Story quests

    Hi,

I'm playing a level 40 white mage, and one thing i'm noticing about leveling up is that the story quests give too much exp, leaving me over leveled for everything else, like the zone quests, dungeons, etc.

I'll probably reach 50 before i see a lot of the content in FFXIV, so im keen to ask if i should level other jobs before i move on to the expansion, as to experience the pre-50 content?

Up to you but iirc around the 44+ mark the quests have a habit of jumping up the required level way faster than you can gain the XP from the quests.
So while your over leveled now, you might not be soon.

i distinctly remember sudden jumps from 46-47-48-49-50 in a very short span of story and quests.

still, do what you will, no harm in leveling other stuff ever

I leveled two jobs at the same time, ninja & scholar. MSQ on one, side quests on the other. Doing MSQ & side quests on the same job does give you tons of exp but you will also outlevel things very fast. My recommendation would be to do two things at the same time, especially if you like to run lots of dungeons.

Save those side quests (except the dungeon opening ones) for when you level another class. It will brake up the monotony of fate grinding.

There is a bit of a gap in the late 40's where there aren't any MSQ for a couple levels (47 & 48 IIRC), but except for that, XP tends to come too fast, especially if you want to at least occasionally re-run dungeons for better loot. I recommend leveling a couple jobs together and splitting the quests/dungeons between them. The 1-50 leveling pace seems to work a lot better that way. (Even during that late 40's gap, there isn't really any lack of leveling content. It's shortly after the beast tribe quests are unlocked. Or you could just re-run Dzmael Darkhold or Aurum Vale a few times and maybe get some nice loot along with the XP.)

And then, of course, there's a huge glut of content at level 50, since that was endgame for so long. If you want to do a significant amount of that and still be able to kick off Heavensward on level (or near to it), then you'd certainly want to be able to divide it up between jobs.

Sticking with one job at a time is good for players who just want to reach top level as early as possible, even if that puts them way ahead of their quests. But really, there's only a few things that unlock by level alone. Most content isn't unlocked until your quests catch up to its level anyway.

I love playing healers in mmorpg, other class types dont interest me that much, and the white mage has been awesome in that regard. So my interest in playing other classes beyond my current one is not that great, that being said, im almost level 50 right now and i think im nowhere near being done with the leveling up content in the base game, so ill just have to buy the expansion to continue getting experience.

Are the new jobs from the expansion fun to play as well? i figure that when i get this WHM to 60 i might as well try one of those.

I found the Astrologist really fun to play as a healer class, you might enjoy it. Even starts at level 30! It does cross class with some White Mage skills. Also - Even though you do not enjoy non healing classes it is a good idea to get a THM to 26 as well if you haven't yet, Swift Cast is really handy!

If you like pure healer SCH may not be for you though you would probably like Astrologian.

Also, your overlevelling is partially because when HW released they increased the exp gains from 1-50 but there is still a pause in story quests in the late 40s somewhere

Story quests can only be done once per character so enjoy it while you can because you won't have them if make different class on that character. Also in the mid to late 40's the story quests spread out meaning you have to grind more levels before each step so again enjoy it while you can.
