30 Minute Lockout for Leaving Roulette's isn't Working as Intended.

It doesn't punish players enough to make them not leave roulette choices they don't like. People are sick of queuing for roulettes just to have someone leave right away. And I understand things come up in real life suddenly and leaving is unavoidable.

Personally 30 minutes is nothing. I could go gather for 30 minutes, it wouldn't be a very big penalty for me.

Could you change the penalty to, say..

"Cannot enter a roulette for 3 hours."

OR even make their future roulette bonus for that specific roulette be cut in half? idk

I've long felt that the appropriate penalty should be that you're locked out for the remaining duration of the instance. If you leave 5 minutes into an instance with a 60 minute duration, you're locked out for 55 minutes. If you leave 20 minutes into a 90 minute duration, you're locked out for 70 minutes. By using the Roulette tool, you've pledged your time in exchange for Tomestones. Make sure that the time pledged is paid, regardless of whether you choose to stay or go.

People leave an instance early because they believe that they're saving time; they believe the instance will take longer than 30 minutes to finish, and so by booking it right away, the 30 minute penalty is still better than what they'd have to deal with otherwise. Make it so the penalty does NOT save them time.

It's not a perfect solution, of course. As you noted, there's activities that don't depend on the duty finder, and being limited to those may still be more appealing than sticking with a (supposedly) doomed run, but I definitely think it would help discourage nonsense like folks instantly dropping a Steps of Faith (now EASILY winnable, even with a spectacularly derpy group, but may still take some time to finish).

Personally, I feel the penalty is just fine. Then again, I very rarely see people leave a dungeon instantly (maybe has happened twice since Heavensward launched). The last time it happened, the tank left and me (Sch) and the two dps just went on and did half the expert roulette tankless.

Nothing you do is going to keep people from leaving roulette choices they don't like. If you make the penalty too harsh, people will simply find another way around it like disconnecting or sitting down and doing nothing while demanding that the group kick them. I think a 30 minute penalty is fine and it is working as intended - it prevents people from spamming it until they get a choice that they like. 3 hours is unreasonably long; many people don't even play this game 3 hours a day. If someone's bent enough that they want to leave an instance, by all means let them leave and we'll get a replacement that actually wants to be there. I don't want to be stuck in an instance with someone that doesn't want to be there anyway. Those are the people doing shitty 1-2-3 DPS rotations or spamming one heal key while watching Netflix on their other monitor or something.

No idea what to replace it with, but I'd happily support an alternative that can get results.

On my Cerberus alt, I'm up to 7/9 of my roulettes or leveling dungeons the past week being:
    * An in-progress with no tank or healer. Almost immediately I'm the last player. 20 minutes wasted.
    * A run where our healer or tank DCs/ragequits and almost immediately I'm the last player. At least 20 minutes wasted.

Lost my whole Sunday afternoon I had set aside to level SMN on this. The people doing this, of course, at worst just eat a 30 minute penalty, watch some TV, and then go back to insta-queues.

What's worse is that there's no point calling in a replacement, people are gone before you can type that your friend is on the way--often even if you do tell them. I gave up even calling in people from my FCs or LSes because I feel bad that they stop what they're doing to help for nothing, or possibly even get put into the wrong in-prog for nothing.

30 mins is fine penalty for leaving dungeon, very few dungeons last 30 mins even with little worse dps so penalty being more than that is bit too much. The point of penalty isn't to stop people from playing so yeah they can craft/gather do w/e for the 30 mins but it prevents them from spamming df and leaving it again and again. To be honest I have rarely seen people leave dungeon straight away maybe like once or twice a month (unless its ex primal in mentor roulette). If you have seen people leave immediately often I think you are just unlucky.

I literally see it happen all the time, commonly in trials too...people leave on steps of faith and eat the 30 minutes for a 12 minute trial often too.

Make it an hour I suppose. That way, you also compensate for the fact that you screwed a DPS out of a potentially 10-20 minute wait.

Why is steps of faith taking 12 minutes?
