Does auto-translate work?

Obviously this is a question meant for bilingual players.

I ran Lost City of Amdapor (normal, the lvl 50 instance) early this morning with a tank that only had French checked off as a language and appeared at least to speak French, from what little he typed. I bring the question up because the tank was clearly clueless about his role, despite being a level 56 paladin. He pulled with Provoke, opened with his combo (no Shield Lob), and used Flash very rarely and at random. When mobs went to the SCH's fairy, he made no attempt to pull them back and only focused one target at a time.

While the other dps and healer took to harassing him, I attempted to use auto-translate to help. He didn't respond at all to this. When we reached Diabolos, I finally broke down and initiated a kick on him.

I realize at this point I was being far too generous in letting him go free for the majority of the instance, but I'm really nervous about kicking people in the first place (and I also have an abnormal amount of patience). Coming back to the original question, was the auto-translate function making anything understandable on his end? For reference, I used:

Please draw enmity.
Can you speak English?
Please use the auto-translate function.
Can you do it?

I understand that it's hard to make a proper sentence with any of these strung together, but do these phrases come out properly in French?

Yes, I can confirm that all these sentences are properly translated in French by the FR client.

I'm using the EN client now due to the DRK skills being horrible in French, and i spent a lot of time checking the auto - translate tool when i changed to english.

I think the issue has more to do with how little actual explanation you can readily give with just auto-translate. For instance, "Please draw enmity" doesn't help if he doesn't understand his job enough to know how to draw enmity. (And if he did, I doubt he'd have been doing as badly as you describe in the first place.)

People like that rarely even look at party chat, sadly. Or they think you're wrong and ignore you.

I've had plenty of tanks that don't look at party chat at all.

I seriously try to play the game of "12 year old, idiot, or troll" sometimes when finding a particularly horrible tank. I imagine sometimes it could be a combination of all 3.

The auto-translate works just fine. Probably wouldn't have mattered if you typed perfect french, that guy wouldn't have reacted any different.
