    Rare/ex gear. Non convertible?

Is anyone bugged about the non-convertible gear? A lot of gear can be turned into materia, this way you get gear out of circulation and as a result there is a higher potential demand for crafting. But what I don't like is how some gear, like rare/ex items that I own are non-convertible.

By choosing to equip rare/ex gear we are losing potential materia, not only that, but the worst part is once we are done with it we can't use it. For example some of the past MRD axes I have been using. I don't see how this makes any sense. Why not be able to make use of it once it is useless by converting it into materia, since we already can't sell it neither.

    Does anyone else concur?

I think it is just another aspect of how the game is de-valuing the non crafted items. It takes a lot of the drive out of doing those dungeons. Perhaps they should just take out ALL non-crafted gear, make dungeons drop rare mats for special weapons and make everything convertable / meldable.

There are two ways to go about it. As mentioned they could just make it where all the "gear" drops are instead material drops that need to be synthed and since they can be synthed one can convert it into materia they like.

Or they could add a unique spin to rare/ex gear where instead of a spiritbond turning into materia you can obtain unied traits or abilities based on the rarity of the weapons. The basic example would be the Ifrit line of weapons once you succesffuly spiritbonded with the weapon you would be able to obtain a unique ability related to your class and said ability is enhanced when using the ifrit weapon.

    This 100%.

I've said it in other threads, but the way the dev team are favouring crafters like this is going to bite them in the ass eventually.

What really is the purpose of doing dungeons if craftable gear is much better, granted Ifrits weapons are pretty nice and its very hard to find a craftable melee weapon anywhere near as good but what about armor ?

Repeatable content and dungeon are an MMO's bread and butter and it really makes me wonder what SE are going to do when nobody wants to do a dungeon more than one to get the achievement, the only reason people are desperately doing Ifrit so many times is because the loot system sucks.

    Getting back on topic /grins
I'm not really too worried about converting U/U but I don't see why we can't have U/U gear have 1 materia slot, especially with the upcomming bazaar changes allowing materia to be added by a third party.

I really agree. I hope that this is how AF gear will break this trend that has been going on up until now. The development of the game is still very early on, I take that this has to be the natural direction once the game starts getting some serious end-game content. Or else I am going to be very disappointed, keeping the best end-game gear on the crafters side is not a good idea.
