I guess some would rather play themselves down so theyre not expected to do great and thus if they do mess up theyre less likely to get flak.

either that or there are a number of underhanded people who go for the meek, pity enducing route : /

Idk about anyone else but i like to go into things thinking im the absolute shizz and clearly "better" than whoever i get paired with randomly.
realistically im aware im average at the game overall and maybe above average at certain aspects.
but still, going into duties with the thought of "im such a good X role, im going to do the most amazing healing/dps/tanking, and if someone else is beating me then ill do even better just to prove it" personally for me drives me to prove to myself i can do that.
i wont say stuff or start bragging in the chats because Ego's are pointless and i think you should keep any thoughts of "im better than y'all" to yourself even if you only think it as a joke/self pep talk etc
also humility is key, you mess up, own up, accept it because mistakes happen, and now you get to learn from it and do better.

still, i can see how many struggle to believe in themselves when people will put them down at a moments notice.
Not always eays to maintain a "Come at me" attitude towards unecissary flak

I'm probably the opposite. You need to go into content believing in yourself, but at the same time, you also need to be willing to adapt to learning new rotations/strategies. Learn how to utilize all of your skills if possible. If you push your class to the max, people out there will notice. Especially for certain classes like WHM and BRD where the majority of players of those classes don't use certain highly beneficial skills at all.

(Divine Seal + Regen and Asylum gives such insane regen during trash pulls that it opens a massive DPS window for yourself, a Cleric Stance'd Assize is one of, if not THE strongest AoE attack in the game, and a Bard singing in general and throwing out Windbite on 3+ mobs to abuse RoD procs is unfortunately considered an exception rather than the norm. A WHM in Antitower can actually break both DPS out of dollhouse -immediately- by swiftcasting Holy + Assize if timed correctly. No other class as far as I know can do it as fast as WHM without caster/range LB.)

And prepare yourself for when situations go south - because at that point, blaming other people isn't going to do anything to salvage the situation.

This mentality is probably why I've had far, FAR better experiences in DF than these forums would suggest.

I haven't set foot in a single Extreme primal (ARR or Heavensward) or a single turn of the Coil of Bahamut. I've seen the videos and I think "How the hell is that possible?" I have no-one to run these things with so I would have to use the DF and trying these instances out that way is not something I feel confident doing. Everyone else has done these things six ways to Sunday for years now; being new to the instance will not be tolerated.

The irony of your post. I feel the way I feel, which is bothered. Yet you seem to take issue with that.

Do you even see the irony in you posting what you did?

    Probably not.

    Just a me thing, but...

When I show confidence I tend to screw up more often. That's why I tell people to let me call myself bad, because if I accept it, I don't worry and make less mistakes. :P

Why are people like this? I was in a dungeon where a tank did a large pull, and I sadly failed in my task to keep him alive. The tank said "fine let's do small pulls ", I said "no give me a second to adjust". We tried the large pull again and no one died. Why can't people believe in themselves a little more?
Because I tell them not to believe in themselves, and instead believe in the Nora that believes in them.

I rather believe in the lack of results rather than lack of skills. It's a bit difficult to explain for me but I could sum it up in this way: "I don't care if you say I'm bad or good, all we should care is about doing the objective"

Of course if I'm bad I always leave the team and never return, that's why I don't raid anymore in this game because I wasn't able to achieve the goals I set in my mind (I never killed t13, whether it was my fault, my team's fault, or everything else's fault it is irrelevant) and so I just retired from the raiding so that my bad play won't affect the others. I don't consider myself bad, or good, or neither: it's that I couldn't achieve my results and so I decided to retire from raiding, so that the chances for others are higher than mine.

I play several online games, including mobas, and the thing I hate the most is when people start saying bad things among each others, while they focus their typing skills into playing the game and win the match (or lose while trying: I'm fine with that). Infact I'm quite weird because I do not like being appreciated or even being told "you're good": I find that extremely underwhelming, silly and utterly pointless. And a lie.

This is just my thought but I'm sure i'm a very small minority. I'm not being a rude person or anything: this is my way of thought and if I fail at this, I move on and never return.

not at all actually, is you that came in the board asking why others feel the way they feel..so yeah the issue is on you and fair enough to ask you why it bothers you the way they feel ? no?

I still want an answer though..why it does bother you how they feel about themselves ??? bothers you enough to post on the boards...you have an anwer to that ?

and if you dont have an answer then probably you shouldnt have been asking that question, because in the end is none of your business, is it ?

Not sure what you are talking about. I didn't ask why others feel the way they feel. It is fair to ask why it bothers me, but you said "what does it matter to you how they feel is beyond my understanding." That statement suggests that it shouldn't matter to anyone how someone feels, while also suggesting that it matters to you how I feel in that I am bothered. Hence the irony.

It bothers me that people will put themselves down so much before giving themselves an opportunity to be better. It's also a very negative atmosphere and a self fulfilling prophecy. If you assume you are worse at something, you'll be worse at it.
