I find the opposite attitude to be more troubling. Mostly because people who already think they're the best at everything don't bother to improve any.
Oooh, shiney...
I had a living example of this earlier today in the form of a tank who yelled at this BLM for not knowing the mechanics of the 1st boss in Amdapor City Hard, then got extra ticked off because the BLM didn't say he was new, and then when I said "Maybe you could tell him the mechanics?", said tank said the BLM should go learn on his own or watch a video.
I always thought "perfect" players in dungeons was a myth until today.
The real problem is that you run in to players like this tank 1 every 500 runs or so, but you run into people who can't hold respectable DPS every single time.I had a living example of this earlier today in the form of a tank who yelled at this BLM for not knowing the mechanics of the 1st boss in Amdapor City Hard, then got extra ticked off because the BLM didn't say he was new, and then when I said "Maybe you could tell him the mechanics?", said tank said the BLM should go learn on his own or watch a video.

I'd say its due to the highly toxic nature of most duty finder pairings. I LOVE Tanking, but im colorblind. and have a very hard time seeing some aoe's. or special mechanics. I usually have to die to something 1 or 2 times to fully understand how to work around it due to the visual impairment I play with. Soooo..... when your with impatient jerks who don't understand it. They belittle you, and over time, it destroys your spirit. over a 5 month period, I abandoned tanking, and became a dragoon, Because people know lol dragoon is a thing and expect us to die......(No im not kidding, had to hide my disability behind a generalization of a class)). The harassment from trolls and elitists eats away at people over time. Its not just, oh im worthless. its oh everyone tells me im worthless.
Because everyone is different.
If people were very confident, some would say they are "overconfident" in their ability.
I've had tank who do small pulls from the very start.
And some tanks who do super large pulls, all the way to the first boss.
And if they die, they could be called too confident.
Also, keep in mind that people in other cultures are very different.
For example, in Japan when someone gives you a compliment, it is culturally expected to be humble and downplay the compliment as much as possible.
For example, if you tell a Japanese person who speaks English perfectly that their English is really good, 99% of the time they will say. "No no, it's not good at all" or "No way, I'm still just a beginner" or "I can't speak English at all". They will even respond IN English! That's just part of the culture.
If someone said "I know it is. I studied really hard to reach this level. I am told I sound like a native", that would be really weird! The Japanese would view that person as "too westernized". (Some Japanese people I've met have even told me that Japanese who study English overseas are no longer true Japanese. True story.)
I'm sure some other cultures in the world are similar. Even if people ARE actually good at something and know what they are doing, it's customary to say they are not.
Probably because of how many awful players there are. It's hard to know if the guy you're healing is really bad or if the instance is really hard or if you're just not good enough. 9 times out of 10 it's going to be the first one. And people are quick to blame the healer when someone dies because using cooldowns is common goddamn sense, yet so many tanks don't freaking do it. It really blows my mind how bad people can be and how much harder they can make everyone else's job.
Probably has to do with past experiences, if you get told that you suck alot at some point, you will believe it. It does not help that when players give advice to others, they often do it in a very condecending manner. Personaly, when playing with others, I will give them a thumbs up and tell them that they did a good job, when they do good. When they are bad, I give them advice in a polite way and when they are bad and do not want to improve, I just ignore them and finish the dungeon as soon as possible.
people feel the way they feel...what does it matter to you how they feel is beyond my understanding. There is certainly nothing to come in here and ask such a silly question on how people feel about themselves + basing a judgement on words without knowing them in-depth or at least personally is well silly
